Hi,

I am applying for my student visa & my common partner's visa as soon as possible, but I'm confused about what forms to fill out for the common law partner visa. I am applying from outside of canada. Should my partner fill out the "APPLICATION FOR A WORK PERMIT MADE OUTSIDE OF CANADA" form and just leave the prospective employer line blank? Or is there a specific open work permit application for accompanying spouse/common law partners.

Also, do I need my passport to be valid until I plan to finish studying? What happens if it takes you a year longer than you originally planned to complete your degree - it is easy to extend the length of your study visa?

Thanks

Also, do I need to send my passport or will a photocopy do? If i have to send my real passport how long does it take for them to return it (I'm applying to the london office)

Read the checklist for London, it answers all three of your questions. http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/assets/pdfs/e_schecklist.pdf

Thanks PMM,

Do I need a police certificate for a study permit? Does my partner need one for his temporary work visa? I can't find this information.
