Hi all,
I wanted to post this query in case someone might have some perspective. My school term starts on September 4th and I still haven't got the visa. I applied for student visa together with a application for Spouse Open Work permit for my husband. I wonder if they will process both our applications together, or there's a chance I'll hear of an outcome for myself earlier as it's a student visa. I'm getting worried as it's all very close and I need to decide whether to inform the university of my situation at this point.

hi there,

I am also suffering from the same situation. I applied on 3rd July for my Visa for Jan 2019 intake U of Calgary MEng along with an Open Work Permit application for my spouse.

However, still no response from them, I submitted upfront medical and fingerprints have already been done on 8th July, the following is my status:

Application step Current status Help
Review of eligibility We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements.
Review of medical results You do not need a medical exam. We will send you a message if this changes.
Review of additional documents We do not need additional documents.
Interview You do not need an interview. We will send you a message if this changes.
Biometrics We do not need your fingerprints. We will send you a message if this changes.
Background check We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.
Final decision Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.

What status did u get at this moment? When did you submit ur application? Any luck so far.
I'm really worried, as I need a minimum of two months for resignation from my current employer.

Regards

I am in a similar situation. I applied for a study permit for MA studies and my husband for an OWP on May 15th, but my husband couldn't provide biometrics untill May 28th - so the timeline is almost the same as with Elphen. We did see someone poking in there in July and also got a reply to our inquiry telling us that they are indeed actively processing the application (July 24th).
I have been emailing with the university too much asking about late entry, dropping some courses, starting my teaching assistantship late and stuff, and about possible deferral. They must already be sick of hearing from me...

I am in Canada. I came with ESL program and now for a Master Program. I submitted my application on June 18th. I callled CIC a week ago, and they said that my application is complete and they will answer shortly... of course, a week later is not shortly for CIC ... I am still waiting... tomorrow will be 60 days... and counting...

In addition, it's mandatory for me to be on campus on Sept 4th and 5th for orientation sessions. It's part of my contract! So technically, if I don't get any info by the end of next week I'm screwed. Even if I do, I'm screwed since it will be really difficult for me to organize everything within a few days before travelling. My husband naturally will have to join me later if he needs to send his passport (I believe this is the process).

The university said that they can't guarantee the same funding for next year - so if no word from CIC then I will most likely not be making the request to defer my place till next year

So sorry to read others' stories too. Good luck in receiving a prompt and positive decision! I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you guys. Any experiences or ideas about contacting CIC again by replying the email they sent? Would that hurt the application?

Same with me Naeem (except for the background check which they don't need) from mid-July, I recall. Around one week later my husband's profile also showed that they are now reviewing his eligibility.

It's the very same situation for me; are you a doctoral candidate? I'm really annoyed at the lack of professionalism on their part. I have to resign from my job here etc etc.

Same situation starting 4th September orientation is 27th August! - we also have 2 children too.......Applied 15th April ourselves not through an agent, chased up with the form for case specific a few months back and received an email reply we were falling in the 20% which was over the average timescale etc etc kinda an auto response........I chased it with the email they replied from which was directly to the immigration office processing our application, this was on Thursday and got a response Friday (yesterday) Approved! So pleased we applied 15th April so has been a very long wait and we leave in a week! So perhaps email outlining your exact dates you need to leave and put your case forward, good luck.

Wow, great to hear this! I actually did exactly this yesterday. My office is the London one. I also wrote that I cannot defer and the degree would significantly enhance my chances if employment in my desired field back home. Since I wrote about not being able to defer, I am now also a bit afraid that they will as a result just refuse our applications...

I will update here when I know the outcome.

Good luck! Will you all be travelling together (can you manage everything before that date) or just you first?

EDIT: You did use 'we' so I guess you will be able to make all the arrangements! It will be tough for us but I'll eat some spinach and try to manage a hundred errands within a few days o_O

Ohhh wow, so nice to hear - If I didn't say we are from the UK, London office! Yes we all will be going together - we explained that we had our home rented, handed notice, in preparation, as we planned to leave Sunday next week for orientations from Monday! cutting it fine had thought we would of heard a while back! I also explained about being booked on the mandatory orientation, with all classes registered and paid in full. Was a chance we had to take being ready to go the following week after chasing!

Good luck, fingers crossed you hear early next week!

At least your life is not short of excitement! We were too chicken to book flights as my husband is from one of those countries they'd gladly have less immigrants from. He also has a sibling in Canada, which might not help the case. I myself am born and raised in Northern Europe.
