Hi seniors I am in need of desperate advice/ solution :'(. My wife has applied for student visa and the course starts in sept 2013. she is now pregnant. What happens now. will there be any problem in getting visa. also if we get visa will she be covered for maternity in a health insurance. if we cannot get covered for maternity, what will be the approximate cost we will be facing?
Please help me :(

Hi,
This isn't a problem for the permit acceptance, But regarding the medical insurance, she may not be covered. The international student services McGill university are stating that students and spouses will not be medically cover for maternity if student or spouse are pregnant before landing in Canada. Sorry and hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your response. do you know how much it will cost for medical if we are going to get treated there. we are going to british columbia. can you please guide with some insurance companies, if you know any?

Hi,
Sorry I wish I can help. You can ask the international student services of you university, they shoyld have all the information about medical insurances for international students.

That's al right. I will speak to them. i very much appreciate your help.

If you have to pay for the pregnancy and delivery yourself, I would budget $7K to $10K - although it could be more if there are complictions. If you want to lower the costs, you can have the birth at home with a midwife.

No insurance company will cover the costs of a pregnancy. It's classified as a pre-existing condition.
