Student changing to tourist while waiting PR

Hello everyone,

I am currently studying in Canada with my study permit, but I want to change my status to tourist while waiting for PR to be approved in order to avoid high tuition fees. My school doesn't allow student with ITA to pay domestic fees. Can this move (changing status) affect my PR application and lead to a rejection?

I also have spouse on open work permit. Will she be able to continue working if I will become a tourist?

I don't understand the logic behind this. In my opinion, delaying study by 6 months will delay your earning potential for 6 months. Which will end up be 10 times more than what your are going to save from tuition fee. Keep in mind that tourist visa holder is not allowed to work. So you are not going to earn anything during that time while still spending on accommodation and foods.

Can you enlighten me on why would you want to do that?

Well, tuition fee for international students is 7000CAD per semester and for domestic it is times lower. I just want to save my parents money in this regard, because once I will become PR I will have to pay domestic fees. My spouse is currently working, so there is no rush in terms of living expenses.

The question is if this move would be suspicious for visa officers and can it be a reason to reject my permanent residency application? As well as how easy it is to just change conditions of stay, won’t they refuse my change of status? And what will happen to my wife's Open Work Permit?

I afraid that no one ever done that. Basically, you are trying to save 3k by trading 30k earning potential from graduating 6 months early.
However, judging from what I read so far for the last 3 years in this forum. I think you should be fine on that

Well, I already have masters degree and that’s my second one, but Canadian Don’t think that this gap will highly effect potential earnings.

I don't think you still understand but maybe I'm wrong It's not about the gap if it effects your potential earnings or not...

Imagine this: You can buy new laptop in a nearby store for $1000. The same laptop is being sold in Australia for only $50. You are planning to go to Australia to get it for $50 but you'll have to spend another $1400 on a flight ticket so the total price will be $1450. Isn't it worth it to buy it in a nearby store? It is So at the end, you'll spend $450 more than if you bought it nearby...

Some people do it haha. They take bus ride for $2.25 to save $1 on a product instead of bying it for a bit more at the more convenient store.

You could either 1)Delay the payment of your tuition fees under personal grounds, but that's up to the school discretion to accept your request, 2)Offer to pay on incremental basis (ie. 1000 first month of the semester, 2000 second month.. and so on). I have seen it and I have done it to pay per month rather than per semester. But again that's all up to your school.
I'd advise against delaying your studies and never apply for tourist while on study permit as this could jeopardise your current legal status.
