Hello,

I hope all is well. I am writing this email to you in regards to my current situation, hoping that you could provide some guidance or help me with any instructions as I am confused and not sure what to do next.

On May 3, 2021, I received an email from IRCC stating that in order for the office to continue processing my PR application, I had to renew my passport on file as it was about to expire.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the longer processing times at the Moroccan consulate in Montreal, I couldn’t do this from Canada so I had to fly to Morocco and renew it there. Once I arrived in Morocco, I received a second email from IRCC explaining that I have to be inside Canada in order to confirm my PR status. At that time, my work permit had already expired and I had no visa stamped on my passport so I couldn’t fly back to Canada.

Since then, I am still stuck in Morocco and still paying my bills in Canada. It’s been 8 months and I don’t know what to do now. I would like to fly back to Canada to confirm my PR or confirm it from here and resume my normal life. I am lost, please advise.

If you want to be able to fly back to Canada and confirm your PR from within Canada, you would need to obtain a TRV. Have you applied for one yet?

I can't answer the question about how you confirm PR from outside of Canada. I'm sure someone else will be able to help with that.

Hello,

I am so sorry to hear about your predicament. Have you tried contacting your MP (the MP of the area that you used to live while in Canada)? I have heard that approaching MP's could be helpful. Just a thought.

Alternatively, maybe you could apply for a tourist visa or if you have a job offer try applying for work visa. I believe either can take less time to get to Canada. I was in a rather similar situation (waiting for renewal of my CoPR in Singapore). My wife had an admission offer from University of Toronto. So, we eventually gave up on the renewal of our document as it was taking for ever. She applied for student permit and I applied for open work permit. We arrived in Canada in Sep and we official became PR on Oct 01.
