It would depend on the person’s situation. It says they must reside in Canada. If you have been out of Canada for 5 months CRA may consider your situation differently than someone who left in March.
If a person calls cra and they tell you are eligible to apply for cerb even if you are not currently in canada. As one of the member gagangaggu specified. Is he/she eligible or not?

Yes of course they have not lost their job. But they are not able to continue their work either due to covid-19 reasons.

Are you implying that calling cra to determine eligibility is not good enough because i can’t seem to find a more appropriate agency or a person to talk to about this situation.
Im not implying anything . I’m going by the rules set out by the Government
It’s black & white

This member pointed the person to call cra to get more clarification. As he himself called cra and verified the same for himself.
But you are stating that person is incorrect.
It seems you are saying that cra might have provided false information to the person.
The CRA call centre often provides wrong information, so don't be too shocked by that. They likely don't have a whole lot more information than what has been published for everyone else to see.

Yes its black and white. And the rules have been updated two or three times.
Than how are you pretty sure that anyone in the thread is not eligible.
Then how are you so sure they are eligible ?
No one seems to be going by the set out rules anyway
Individuals seem to be missing or misinterpreting the rule of “ Have you lost your job due to covid ?”
If you haven’t , you’re not eligible . People can go ahead and apply , HOWEVER when individuals are laid off a ROE is issued indicating they are laid off . That information is shared between departments. That’ll be matched up with them agreeing to the conditions. The Government will then just recoup any funds paid out to individuals not eligible . They’ll take that from any tax refunds , or to any other payments the individuals may be receiving. Example, GST refunds. And if that’s not available, it’ll just go off to collections & enforcement. That could entail garnishment of bank accounts , wages .
Individuals applying can do what they want

If cra call center may provide false information then it can be challenged easily as you know all the calls are recorded. If a person follows up with cra and takes a step which turns out to be false information then the person is not at fault.

I am not sure if anyone is eligible. I have not stated in any off my replies. I am not trying to provide any false information. That is why I want people to call cra about their individual cases instead of getting any false information here and getting misguided.

I guess you could take CRA to court but it will be very expensive. You are still responsible if you claimed CERB and are not eligible.

CRA customer service is often wrong. people should look at the eligibility criteria. If there is any confusion they can call but they need to be prepared to return the money if CERB was incorrectly given to the person. It is unfortunate but customer service agents have basic knowledge.

I Am a student pursuing my masters at Ottawa . I came to India on March 2nd and I had plans to leave by 30 th March . Unfortunately, the country decided to go under lockdown . I would like to know Two things here .

1)my visa is valid till 2021 , looking at the travel exempt by cic , will I be able to borad?

2) I read at one of the forum that special Provisons are being made for lifting the Canadian citizen at present , does this imply to Student visa, holders how have already landed Canada before March 18th ?

Would appreciate your help.

1. Yes, you are exempt.

2. No. Those are repatriation flights for Canadian citizen/PRs. You don't qualify. You will have to try to find your own flight.
