Can some please explain step by step of what EXACTLY happens during a medical exam? How long is it?

Your answers will be greatly greatly appreciated.

Do you have any specific questions/concerns? Most people won't remember EXACTLY what happened in their medical. I just remember the doctor asked us a bunch of questions, checked our chest/abdomen, and of course we did our X-ray, blood and urine tests. Or do you even need to know how we checked in at the receptionist? :p

The doctor will interview you for previous known conditions/medical history (you and family)
The doctor will measure your blood pressure and listen to your lungs (inhaling and exhaling)
The doctor will request you to provide the urine sample (they will give you the sample container)
You will be directed to have your blood sample collected. (could be in the same clinic or another clinic, depending on where you perform your medical exam)
You will be directed to have an x-ray taken - chest. (could be in the same clinic or another clinic, depending on where you perform your medical exam)

The whole thing should take about 1 hour.
At the end they will give you the form that you will submit with your documents.

This is all i remember ;)

this is a good link regarding the medical http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/medic/admiss/index.asp

Thank you for your detailed answer. There are no eye exams? vision?
No eye exams, but I can't remember if the doctor actually asked me if I use prescription glasses...
In anyway, that wouldn't affect the CIC final decision regarding your medical ;)

even if i have REALLY bad eye sight even after glasses? After glasses i have eye vision of 20/50.
No. You don't have to be in perfect health to get PR. You just have to be free of any contagious diseases that could be dangerous to the Canadian public, and you shouldn't have something that will cost the public health system a lot of money. Glasses and eye doctors are not covered for adults in many provincial health plans, and poor vision is definitely not contagious!

The only concern I could see (whether your medical tests your eyes or not - ours did not) is whether you can work. I don't really know how bad 20/50 is, or if that will be a concern at all.

The place I went to here in Calgary I had to read a bunch of letters in a Row from a distance. The letters kept decreasing in size as you go down the rows. The reading was done using one eye at a time

I had vision exam and was asked to read letters with prescription glasses. I do not think it would affect your application as it is not contagious (as other forum members informed).
