Staying in Canada while work permit extension application under consideration

Hi,
I entered Canada as a student and my wife could get a work permit based on that. Our study and work permits will expire on 30-Mar-2017.

Now, I have applied for a Post Graduate Work Permit and have just landed a job.

My wife will be applying for a work permit extension based on the above.

My question is:

1) What would happen if my wife's work permit application is under consideration after 30-Mar-2017 and her work permit expires. Will she be able to work or will have to return to India?

2) We also received ITA recently and will submit all the required documents shortly. Does it have any impact at all in terms of implied work permit?

1. She would have to stop working and apply for status as a visitor.
2. She won't be eligible for a SOWP until you obtain a job on your PGWP in NOC A, B or O. She would require a copy of your job duties and 1 pay stub before she could apply .

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I have a job offer in NOC OAB category. So I guess she is eligible to apply for SOWP now.

However, in your response related to applying for visitor status, I have been advised today by my university lawyer that if her work permit extension application is under consideration while her work permit expires, She will be on implied work permit status until a final decision is made on her application. So, I am sort of confused now.
