Hello there.
I am currently working on a PGWP that expires in Feb 2017.
My girlfriend (Canadian born) was thinking of sponsoring me.
Now, I heard that when she submits the application for sponsorship I am allowed to submit my application for PR at the same time and I can also apply to extend my work permit along with the PR application.
Do you guys know anything about this?

Thank you

When she submits the application to sponsor you, you have to submit the application for PR at the same time - the two applications are put together and are sent together to the processing centre.

You can apply inland or outland. For inland, you have to be in Canada, and are advised not to leave during processing, which can take up to two years. You can apply for an open work permit with this application, and it will take 4 or 5 months to get the permit.

For outland, you can stay in Canada, first on your PGWP, and then as a visitor. Outland is generally much faster, but you cannot apply for an open work permit with it. You can continue working on your PGWP, however.

For the open work permit that comes with an inland application, you do not need a LMIA.
