hi,

I came to Canada from the uk as part of the international experience Canada program in April of 2017.
I married my wife in July of last year, and we have lived together the entire time I have been in Canada.

We are gathering all of our documents for the spousal sponsorship process, but we were informed by multiple people that even though my temporary work visa expires in April, that once we applied for spousal sponsorship that I would be allowed to stay - but not work - whilst the application is reviewed.

However we cannot find any way of confirming this. We were planning on applying for an open work permit at the same time, so would this allow me to stay in Canada even though it would take 4-5 months to get approved.

We know we’ve left this a little late, and we thought there maybe a period where i wasn’t able to work, but now we’re scared that I may have to leave entirely!

Please if anyone could help we’d be so appreciative!

submit inland sponsorship + OWP and ensure the application package is received when the applicant is not out-of-status.....ensure you pay the sponsorship fees and the OWP fees (155 + 100), sign the forms and ensure you submit the documents as required in both the sponsorship and OWP checklist(s) to avoid any return and re-submission of your application......the OWP will not be approved if the applicant is out-of-status.....the OWP if approved enables the applicant to work and remain in Canada while the inland sponsorship is been processed......OWP is usually approved within 4 months.......most sponsorship are approved within 12 months.

Stay but not work until OWP in hand.
