stay duration in Canada (3/5, or 3/4) years?

Dear Friends,
Please help me to understand the duration of stay in Canada after landing, i came to know that validity of PR card is 5 years from date of issuance we we need to stay 3 years out of those 5 years, but on CIC website and even on this forum i learnt that we have to stay 3 years in last 4 years before applying for citizenship. Kindly clarify this confusion of 4 and 5 years.

To keep your PR status, you must live in Canada for 2 out of every 5 rolling years.

To qualify to apply for citizenship, you must live in Canada for 3 years out of the last 4 years before you apply.

PR status and citizenship fall under different rules.

Yes, currently, for citizenship one needs 3 out of 4 years, however the PR cards are valid for 5 years

Under the present laws, you will qualify to apply for citizenship by June 2018. But if what I read at http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/12/27/as-canadian-citizenship-rules-face-an-overhaul-by-the-harper-government-in-2014-heres-what-to-expect/ is going to be implemented, the laws may change in unprecedented ways.

that' s true. you have to stay 1195 day i. e 3 years out of 4 years.........
