Hi there

I am filling up the statutory declaration of common law union form and I have a few questions.

1) The sentence: solemnly declare that we have cohabited in a conjugal relationship for _____ continuous year(s) from __date________ to ___date_______.

I need to fill in the date. My partner and I are still staying together. We started our cohabited conjugal relationship since last year. so what should i put for the to date since we are still living together?

and also, the part where I have to declare : have declared our common-law union under the canadian income tax act (T-1 " General - individual income tax return).
What does this mean?

Hello,

In my case, I input as from "the date (2016-XX-XX)" which I started living with my partner to "current" (I did not put the particular date for this area, I just simply put the word 'current'

Also, the Canadian income tax part is asking if you renewed your marital status to a common-law in your CRA account and filed your taxes under this common-law status. In my case, I officially became a common-law relationship in March 2017 and so I changed my marital status to 'common-law' since then as well as filed my taxes for the year of 2017 under the new status. Then when I filled up the declaration form in early 2018, I clicked yes to the part of the Canadian income tax. Hope this helps.

Hi krystine

Thanks so much for your reply! Im from Singapore, and in Singapore common law status is not recognized, therefore my partner and I file our income tax individually. So in this case, I should tick No?
your help is much appreciated thank you
