Yes, you need an employer, the employer has to get a Labour Market Opinion after advertising the job, and proving no Canadians/PRs available/qualify and that you are more qualified. Then you apply for the work permit through Vegreville.

Hi,

Since a cashier's job in gas station is an unskilled job at the lowest level (NOC D)... and there 'll be 100 other Canadian PRs/Citizens...and not to mention 1000 other international students willing to do that job (with or without advertising that job..), and hence chances of getting a positive labor market opinion is absolutely nil (it's anyways nil for an NOC D level job...unless otherwise specified), and so your application attempt for a work visa will be immediately refused, even if say the employer is fully cooperating with you (usually employers don't take all this pain of going through an LMO for unskilled jobs).

So, taking this into consideration, try to get some solid work experience (in your engineering field) for 2-3 years, and then search for a skilled job...and then only you've got a chance to secure work permit, if you don't want to study anymore.... or do your further studies in Canada, and then search for a job under PGWP. Don't expect to get a positive LMO and a work visa..with an unskilled job offer.

thank you for giving reply in detail.

1) let suppose we get positive LMO and apply for visa....than what are the chances???
2) Issuing work permit depends on LMO or type of job ,skilled and unskilled ?

1. Absolutely NO chance of getting a positive LMO with an unskilled job offer. And in case you get a positive LMO (with a skilled job offer), chances are mostly that you 'll get a work permit.
2. Depends on many factors. Mainly on your qualification, work experience, age, skilled job offer, language skills, LMO result (in cases like when the PGWP expires and you 've not applied for PR under any schemes such as CEC/PNPs.. but you want to continue with that job) etc

Hello,

I have a question regarding the change status of residency in Canada. I have a friend who has been in Canada since September 2011 with a international student study permit in Saskatchewan, which is expiring February 2013.
He has been studying ESL in Saskatchewan, with plans to get post secondary education in Business Adminstration, in which he has received a diploma from his home country. He has a job offer as a painter in Calgary Alberta. He is considering to apply to for change of status through the LMO program, that is extended through the company which offers him the job and accept the job offer.
Due to not having any background in painting, he is concerned with the effect this change of status may have on his current status and his future status, that is LMO work permit. Considering his situation, he is seeking advice and will base his decision whether to take the job offer on this. Would his situation create any arguments against his case of acquiring the LMO status? What is the consideration for such a change of status? Also, if he were to maintain his international student status by applying for study permit extension in January, would the LMO status application jeopardize his study permit extension? Can you please advise?

Best Regards,

Ask yourself...

Do you think if no Canadian citizen/PR available for this job? This is the first criteria for LMO. And, a positive LMO is not a guarantee of work permit.

Sorry for negative reply. But it will not get accepted since there are millions of people down there who can do this job, so LMO wont get through.
