Status change in the US

Hi,

Do we have to inform CIC of the status change in this country? Let's say my spouse was on H4 visa (dependent) in US for an year.We applied for Immigration and sent a copy of H4 to CIC with application.Now the visa is changing to H1 (work visa).Do we need inform CIC of this change or the status check is only to prove that you have lived legally in the US for 1 year before applying for Canadian Immigration?

Yes, you need to inform CIC if your current status has changed.

Can you tell me if you know someone who had a situation like this before? Keeping a legal status for an year is different and status change are different.I'm keen on knowing if you have read somewhere, some rule that clearly states under what circumstances you need to inform CIC of the status change.

The paper I received from a CIC requesting some additional documents, states that you must notify of any change in family status. However, my consultant advised me that if my status changed in US, I should advise to CIC.
Someone else might be able to give you a better answer.

What if one is on H1 and suddenly foregoes status because they lose their job. Do we have to inform CIC about this also? There is no change in family status during this time.

it really is not the concern of cic of what your status is in u s as long as
you are not the principal applicant.
the change in family status means getting preganant or divorce or a death( god forbid) in family.

cic has no concern with your status in US ,
as long as you meet their requirements when you filed your applications with them
one of my friend who was principal applicant was called for interview.
he was out of status in US by time of his interview,he never mentioned it to them
and it didn't affect his pr.
he is now living in toronto for the past 5 years.
