My husband got his PR nearly three years ago. We are gathering the documentation to apply for this citizenship. I have a few questions and concerns regarding the application and supporting documents.
- school records for our 3 (Canadian) children.
We have report cards for them while we lived in Canada. My eldest was 7 years old when we moved here, so three years of report cards should be sufficient. My middle child was 4 years old and started pre-primary or maternelle here so three years of records here too. My youngest was only 2 year so, no record for him until this year. We lived in Switzerland before moving here (my husband's home country) and they do not do report cards for young children. We have letters from the head teacher stating when they were enrolled (the school years) and it is on the school's letterhead. Would the letter be sufficient? I suppose it will have to be, b/c they do not write reports. Any advice is welcome.
- my husband travels for work.
We have a company in Switzerland and we both still work for it. My husband visits there quarterly-ish to deal with issues that cannot be dealt with from Canada and attends a yearly conference. We are getting together all the dates. We also visit my parents in the USA occasionally, but I cannot remember every visit. IS there a way to verify his boarder crossings, so you do not omit any due to the limitations of memory? Is it likely to case a delay with his application due to the fact we still own and run a Swiss company?
- Record of Landing (IMM 1000), or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688)
I don't remember what these look like. Can anyone point me to an online version so I know what I am looking for? I tried an image search and I got all kinds of documents.
We are getting ready to have him write a language test. Does it matter whether you write the French or the English one? My husband is fluent in both.
Does anyone have any idea if Halifax is generally slower or faster at processing citizenship paperwork? I have a hunch it's slower, but I'd like to be pleasantly surprised.
I welcome all tips and advice. Man. I really thought this would be easier than filing for PR. It seems just as complex. Why does our government make this such a rigamarole?
Thanks!
Olivia
