Starting a Co-op Job with Study Permit but not Work Permit

Hi there,

I have a question regarding the possibility of beginning an already-secure co-op job with just a study permit.

I just failed the last course of my undergraduate program, which means I can no longer receive a work permit in time to start my work placement in September. This job is something I secured on my own and is NOT a requirement of the program.

I know this is a long shot, but is there any way of getting a temporary work permit, or something that will allow me to complete the co-op placement before I retake the failed course? Can this somehow be negotiated with the employer and or the school....?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there, may I ask you to make some clarifications regarding this job? I am sure anyone here who would like to help needs to know these details as well.
You mentioned this is a Co-op job at several places but later you said it is not required by the program, which contradicts the definition of a Co-op placement in Canada. So is this a Co-op job (i.e. a job required for completing your degree, which strictly requires Co-op work permit), or only a internship that has nothing to do with your school?
According to my understanding/guesses, you intended to graduate and apply for the post-graduate work permit to start this job, but the failed course got in the way. Is this the actual situation?
Lastly, about your current status as a student, when will you return to school and when will your study permit expire? Because unless stated, the study permit authorize you to work both on-campus and off-campus with several important limitations. So if 1) your study permit won't expire when you are working, 2) You are still registered at your learning institution during the time of your work and will return to take the class, you might have a chance to work at least part time for this job.
Good luck and looking forward to your answers
