Starting a catering business as a foreigner

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would have a few questions regarding starting a catering business in B.C. :

We are a family considering to move next April and want to start right away, once the paperwork is solved.

Can we apply for the business and residence permit at the embassy in Phnom Penh / Cambodia, where we're currently living to have all papers in order before we even arrive?

What obstacles could come across? We have no crime records, liabilities, sicknesses etc.

You should start by reading through Canada's immigration programs in detail to see which program you may qualify to apply under. This information can be found here:

No - the immigration application will not be sent to your local embassy. You will have to submit the application to a visa office in Canada.

The immigration process takes some time. If you are just starting now, it's unrealistic to think you will be able to move next April.

Again, you need to start by reading through the information on the above page in detail to determine if you qualify to apply for permanent residency.

You cannot work in Canada unless you have a work permit, which requires that you have an approved full time job with an existing employer. You cannot work for your own business until you become a Permanent Resident.

It is a difficult scenario and difficult to meet the requirement as you are thinking to proceed because the things will be much complicated than it seems. I think your broker has explained the things in such a easy way, which is very difficult as I do not want to say that it is impossible but ofcourse a difficult thing.

I assumed that it'll be likely more complicate as I hoped for.

Anyway, asking here in advance saved me likely a lot of bureaucracy-headache and I'll just stay in Asia instead-could be worse.

My wife wants to start Cakes business as she bakes very good. If you guys have any idea on how to start, please share it and I'll share my experiences.
