"Started Processing Your Application"

Hi everyone,

I'm a Sep 2012 applicant.

This morning i got an ECAS status update, which doesn't add up (oh well, what CIC actions do add up after all!)

'We started processing your application on July 30, 2013.'

But the problem is that they requested for medical back in May and then filed it as passed on 11 June.
GCMS report ordered in 1st week of July showed my status as 'recommend pass". Foss notes were all positive, nothing concerning. Criminality was in progress, Security - not started.

Last week i got an email from CIC that my back ground check is still in progress and they can't confirm when it will be completed.

That's why i'm confused, about this 'processing' status, are they checking my eligibility again? (the topic i've seen recently on this forum).

Grateful if any one can share their experience - what action/message from CIC was followed by the above message. Is it something to be concerned? Does PPR follow after this status update or does some other message follow?

PS: i've already ordered a Gcms on 4th August.

Hi Infoseeker,

I had the similar status until it changed to Decision made on 14-August.
"We started processing your application on June 18, 2013."

I received my PPR on 9-Aug and later on 14-August the following were added in ECAS:
3. Medical results have been received.
4. A decision has been made on your application. The office will contact you concerning this decision.

So I think you don't need to worry. Just wait for few more days. Wish you good luck

Criminality was in progress, Security - not started.

What are the differences between Criminality check and Security check. what do they do in each category?

for me, both are in Progress according to gcms notes.

Criminality: they check if there are any charges laid on you

Security: If they grant you PR, are you a threat to Canada? (Includes even the country you coming from, region, any links with terrorist organizations ETC....)

Singh..firstly +1 for you, as i haven't come across such a simple and clear definition of those back ground checks.

But i wonder about the process. For foreign countries, i have already provided them police certificates. Will they resend those certificates back to those countries and get confirmation? or is there some other process? Any insights?

I have no idea brother, how in-depth processing will be done..

Hi Infoseeker12, I think apart from the PCC they would also be sending an inquiry to the country(ies) and, that is the reason some applications could take longer than others. If the countries that you have stayed in delay in responding to CIC, your application could get delayed. If you have traveled to many countries, this could potentially delay the assessment/verification.

Now............criminality check is done by RCMP and that should not take as long. I dont believe that they would be sending a criminality check to other countries, that should be included in the security check.

Your other query....it seems to me that is just an error on their part. Send them an email to confirm as to why that happened.

Hang in there, buddy, you are almost done. Dont lose hope now.

Hi , i apply for humanitarian and compassionate and here is :
1. We received your application for permanent residence on September 15, 2017.

after 7 months later showing this :

2. We started processing your application on May 7, 2018.
and 5 months later still nothing more

Anyone knows anything about this ?
What is the next step?
How long more takes for next step?
Is normal ?

Im in a relationship and my partner want to sponsor me , should i do it? At this point? Or should wait?
