Don't worry too much about the staples.

If you don't staple at least some things...it will be a mess.
Don't staple photos and cards...but if there are 7 pages to an IMMxxxx documet...do staple them...it just keeps things solid.
I've seen this question in other forums other than here...and it's not a big deal....staples are not a reason for refusal..they're a common stationary item used in the Canadian Government all the time.

Staples always pass through customs when I travel to other countries and back.

Just don't over do it. I stapled a lot a stuff and now they want the passports to send the visas now....no issues.
Focus on the Content...and not the staples.

There's so much emotion attached to our applications..that they've got us worried about staples...I know I was worried about it too at first.

Thanks that makes me feel better. Congrats on almost getting your visa! Pretty fast!

Oh and I used yellow post it notes on lots of stuff.....
That's what we do in the office in real life...and the immigration office is the same...I'm sure they're used to it...and an office is an office.
But just be careful...be clear and use it sparingly.

Think of a stranger looking at an emotionally based application...you have to guide them to the correct relevant points...if that means sticky notes...then do it....guide them through your application....they don't give us a template of how exactly how to do it...and each application is different and has different types of evidence....
