Spouse sponsorship

Hi,
I want to sponsor my future wife after marriage. I am living in canada. I am going to india for 2-3 weeks time in January end where we are going to register our marriage and going for honeymoon after that. As we are not having much time for preparation so we are not going to do any marriage reception or function. We will be having small engagement function. I have looked in IMM5490 which is asking for evidences for marriage and reception functions and all. As we are not holding any proper marriage function. We will not be having proper evidences and all. I actually need advise to complete this form. If someone can help me out would be much appreciated.

all you need is a proof that you got married, invitation card, marriage photo, etc etc.. so make sure you atleast print one card and keep a copy of it, get a photo of you both wearing bridal outfits (i know there is no function as such but dress up and head up to a pphoto studio to do it)... as for the application, are you going to change your marital status on your passport?? any idea how much time it takes?

Keep in mind that in certain countries with strong religious/cultural customs, such as India or Pakistan for example, applicants are expected to follow certain procedures/rituals. Lack of such, may be flagged by CIC as possible signs of fraud which may bring more scrutiny of your case. You better provide a convincing cover letter explaining why you didn't follow the common rituals.

Why don't you have enough time for preparation to do a reception? I know in India, the traditional wedding is very important when it comes to assessing the genuineness of marriage. You should have a very good reason for not doing a reception, otherwise you will have long delays and face scrutiny in your application.

The main reason is I came to canada in July, I have started my new job in September. So basically I am new at my job and wont get much leave from my job. A marriage function will take lots of preparation and I dont think it can be done in this sort amount of time. So that's the main reason.
