Hello there, I just arrived in Canada with my spouse (which is a canadian citizen) and i am about to apply for residency. My current status is a visitor I am here with an Eta. From what i understand i should apply for a inland application, so that i can ask for a working visa for the next months, and then get the residency in 12-18 months. The only issue that i encounter with this option is the fact that its recomendend to not leave the canada while waiting for residency, and while i am not planning on leaving the country soon, i want to make sure in case of emergency (familiar for example) i can leave Canada and come back without having to withdraw the application. The outland application would guarantee me freedom of travel but at the same time i can't apply for a working visa in canada if i do so.
Another situation that i have concerns my passport expiry date. It expires in approx 1 year from now, and i intended to renew it at the consulate this winter. Is that going to create me some sort of problem?
Thanks!!

If you are the subject of an inland sponsorship you are not a prisoner of Canada. You can travel overseas for family visits, or whatever, as long as it's not a significant break (several months, for example - there is no exact formula). You should extend your passport as soon as the application process allows. I'd have to check to see if that's one of the changes about which you must immediately inform IRCC. I don't think so.

Hi there,

This was my scenario last 2017. I waited for my outland app while on trv the whole time in canada. I was told travelling outside canada would be an issue if i applied inland. I was fortunate to be able to go out and back in several times without any issues, i think bec outland. I just informed my VO that i was travelling to canada while my app was in process.

For your passport i think you just have to update your VO your updated passport after you renew.
