Hello, i have some questiones need some advice. So we got the letter from alberta office last week that my husband sponsorship and my application for permanent residence are approved and they sent me the form for the medical tests, also suggested to apply for an open work permit, but i was wondering if at the website any kind of working permit aplplication is valid for may case cause i only find for students or temporary workers wives but my husband is a canadian citizen. Is there any difference? can i use any form?? and how long does it take?
Do i need to do do the medical tests before the work permit application or not?
the other question is what steps do i have to follow to get my Health card and Social Insurance number, or do i have to wait till i get the work permit?

i am located in Toronto.
thanks in advance.

You need form IMM5710, if you want to mail it in, or you can apply on-line.

The process takes a couple of weeks and the cost is $155

You can apply for it right away, before you have your medical examination.

I don't know what the requirements are in Ontario for getting your health card, but OWP will allow you to get a temporary SIN.

Now, I'm confused. It is my understanding that Stage 1 Sponsor Approval takes 7-8 months. Stage 2 will take 8-9 months and that is when you get your medical exam etc as part of the process. After that is complete you are approved for PR. We filed our application for sponsorship/PR on Dec. 30th, 2013 and Stage 1 approval should happen July/August 2014. In our package I asked for an open ended work permit and extended stay visa. The work permit/visa will be issued after Stage 1 approval according to the nice guy from Immigration. I'd go ahead and file for an open ended permit/extended stay visa and ask that it be added to your file! Hope this helps! Good luck...

Hello,

I am one of the applicants impacted by the long processing times of the family sponsorship program. I have been living in Canada from march 2013 . only waiting for getting my work permit. I have work experience in MNC company. but unfortunately, not being able to get a job and contribute to the Canadian economy because I do not have a work permit. My husband is the only person who is earning and believe me it is very difficult to survive.

I am feeling sick and stressful sometime i am getting health problem but i do not have health coverage also :(

and also imposed by the family sponsorship program, we are not able to leave Canada and visit our family members who are located abroad.

I called to enquire about that, they told me they are working on july 11 applications and i applied in august according to general processing time my work permit should come at the end of this month. but they told me to call after 2 month means in august. it means the total processing time is 12 months not 10 :( :(

This is very very stressful situation for me :(

Thanks,
