Spouse Sponsorship - General Application Questions

I know these have most likely been addressed elsewhere in the forum, but the search bar has been of little help and would just like a few quick questions answered that have been worrying me!

PHOTOS: My partner and I have been together for 3 years and never been much for photographs. We have virtually no photos that weren't taken by one of us, and they're mostly just "selfies" of us together in our down time. Will this cause issues? I can provide several per month that we've spent together to prove the length of our relationship, but will it be too repetitive?
Do they need to be printed in colour?
Does it matter what kind of paper they're printed on?
What's the maximum number of photos allowed on one piece of paper?

RECEIPTS: We've never kept many receipts either, but I've read that even basic receipts (like for household items, groceries, haircuts etc) can be helpful in proving a genuine relationship/living arrangement. Are these acceptable to send along? Can I provide photos or scans, or do they need to be the original receipts?
I also have many booking confirmation emails from airlines, are these printed emails acceptable proofs as well, or do I need to do something additional to prove their validity?

STAYING IN CANADA IN THE MEAN TIME: He's currently in Canada on a one year open work permit which expires in April 2016. Would he need to apply for an extension of his work permit once we apply for PR, or will he be granted an extension of his work permit automatically when they receive our application?

Sorry for these questions- I know they probably seem silly and basic, but they're the small things that keep me up at night. We'll officially have common-law status on December 11th of this year, so I'm scrambling to get all of our proofs in order so we can apply as soon as possible to secure our future together. Thanks in advance for the help.

Where is your partner from? Are you planning on applying using the inland or outland process?

My partner is American. We're planning on applying inland. I know it takes a lot longer, but he has most of his ties here now with a full-time job here in Ontario, not to mention myself, our apartment lease, and my family which he is very close to.

Photos of the two of you just relaxing at home are fine. If they have a date stamp, the fact they are similar is OK. Ideally the visa officer wants to see varied photos that include friends and family too, but if you don't have any, don't worry, it should be OK. Since you live together, you have plenty of other proof, and in addition an American applicant is not considered much of a risk for marriage fraud (usually).

The photos can be in black and white; it doesn't matter. I've heard of some people who have put up to 10 on one page. However, if you want to add a description of the photo, I would keep it at three or four to a page.

Receipts are fine as proof. Either a photocopy or the original is fine.

The airline emails are OK too. Ideally the visa officer would want to see the boarding passes as well, but again if you don't have them it should be OK in your situation.

Given your circumstances and the fact that he's American, the burden of proof of a genuine relationship isn't so high. We sent over 100 photos but none were even labeled or date-stamped. That was overkill though, several per month sounds good.

Just photocopy all your receipts/tickets etc. As for the photos, since we had a lot of photos I just uploaded them to the Walmart photo center website and got the cheapest option, they were ready in 15 minutes. Printing out 100 photos costs a lot of ink. But, if you want to do it at home that's fine too. I used photo paper for colour documents, but even that isn't necessary.

Usually everyone recommends applying outland for an American, but in your case since he has a full-time job he likes already it would make sense to apply inland for the OWP.

He'll have to apply by January to get the new OWP by April, unless his OWP is renewable. Is his current OWP through the SWAP program?

Yes, he came in through SWAP so I don't think it's renewable given he hasn't been back in school. I thought there was an OWP for people waiting on PR verdicts but I'm not clear on that.
