Spouse Sponsorship Advice

Hello Guys,

I am temporary worker working in the province of New Brunswick as a software engineer. I am planning to use the PnP then Express Entry route to get a PR. My girlfriend (also a foreign national) and I are considering marrying each other and she plans to move in with me and finish her university studies here.

I would like to know if you would advise us to get married first so I can include her in my PR process or wait until I get a PR and apply for a spousal sponsorship on her behalf.

If she does get a PR with me our lives can begin smoothly with her being a residential applicant in university. If not she would have to loose a year before she can rejoin a Canadian university as we cannot afford international fees. My biggest concern being would our marriage just before submitting my PR application appear like a marriage of convenience ?

PS. We are considering getting married in Canada when she visits in summer

Any advice is appreciated.

As long as you think she will pass the medical and security checks, I would suggest getting married first and including her on your application. If she won't pass the medical, come here first, get PR, then go back and marry her. If you have already lived with her for 12 continuous months, you must include her on your application as your common-law partner.

As long as you show proof of your relationship developing over time, it should not look like a marriage of convenience.

What country are you from?
