Hello All,

This Thread is for all who wish to apply for OWP based on there Spouse (Student / PGWP ) Visa.

Let us learn and share from each other.

To Start we are married on Nov 2016 and my wife has left to Canada on 31 Aug 2017 on Student permit.

I would like to apply for OWP based on her student permit, but can any one suggest me how long should i have to wait before i apply.

As i heard that we have to wait at least 3 months / a semester before I can apply for OWP.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

there really isn't any rule like that. we applied together both for the study permit and open work permit. we were approved together.

timeline depends on the country you are applying from. so check the processing times for your country on the CIC website.

Documents are a lot and since we applied together in one envelope, its hard to split them. its everything you will need for a study permit and more. below is what i remember;

proof of funds
offer and acceptance letter
proof of registration for semester(timetable etc)
proof of accommodation(in Canada)
SOP by my self (study permit)
SOP by spouse (OWP )
explanation letter by me(why i need spouse and toddler with me)
employment letter from spouse employer
marriage certificate
pictures from all vacations(to prove we travel together)
proof of education/ qualifications(self and spouse)
proof of ties at home
application forms

There’s no set format. It’s a letter stating why you chose the program and how it aligns with your career goal.

As far as I know, usually it take 2 months for getting medical request. You applied online without upfront medicals ?
