Spouse Open Work Permit - Online Application - Approved (Timeline)

Dear All,

I need a help from your experiences and current trend going on visa processing.
I applied for SOWP as my wife is in Canada on work permit since Sep'18 under the NOC B,and before that she was on student visa from May'17 to Aug'18.
I applied through paper application on 5th April'19 and got request for medicals on 12th April'19.
Medical Passed on 22nd April, since than it is showing that file is under processing for background check.

When I can expect PPR?

Hello I am Pravallika Ravuri.! I am from INDIA.! I have applied for Dependent with open work permit.! I have dropped my visa on 12th april and it is still under process.! I have also submitted my passport also on the same day when i had dropped my visa!
I just want to know in how many days i would be getting my visa.?
Also that they dint for any medicals.?
If they request later after how many days i will be getting my visa?
I got recently married my husband is working there at canada !
So just what to know how long does it take DEPENDENT WITH OPEN WORK PERMIT to get processed.?

My friend have applied for her Husband's open work permit, she got rejection, Reason was - they need the proof that Families do support financially .
in this case which document she should provide.
we don't know what to do please help

The processing time for sowp says its 5 weeks. When I applied it was 13 weeks from india (Feb 28 application). What will be the processing time for my application then? Is it 5 or still 13?

As of now, processing time from India is 97 days. Remember you need to choose "work permit application (new employer)" while checking for SOWP processing time

How much funds did she show? You must show atleast 25,000 CAD mutually

Working on applications received on January 9, 2019.


You may need to give biometrics with your application. This processing time doesn’t include the time you need to give your biometrics.

I would suggest you to go ahead and apply for SOWP. Also go with upfront medical. I have seen that it makes processing faster

I have applied the sowp through a consultant. He was the one who told me to check the processing time like this. Sigh!

You could have applied on your own. It's a straight forward application. Anyways, is your medical passed?

Biometrics was updated and there is “Background check in progress”
But no updates on medical( it was upfront)
