Spouse Open Work Permit From India

Hello members, can you please resolve my two questions.


1) Can SOWP holder work in any province across Canada or she has to work in the same province where her spouse is studying? Like I am studying in Ontario but my spouse who would be SOWP wants to work in Manitoba. Is that possible.?

2)Is their any time limit under which we are suppose to travel to Canada after getting our SOWP approved? My spouse is applying for his SOWP now but he intends to travel after six months.

SOWP is really meant for families to join their spouses in Canada. I would not personally recommend living in different provinces. It will rause suspicion that this is a marriage of convenience.

so as you said my spouse wont be qualify if there will be less than 6 months on my study permit. (TRUE)

but like the current processing time for SOWP is 147 days equals to 21 weeks from India so like if i apply on September 5, 2020 then the result will be out on Januray 27, 2020 after 147 days

and my visa is valid till April 2021 so in this case if i apply by september 2020 will there be a chances for rejection or approval? due to less time left on study permit because if he give me a decision somewhere in January then there will be only 3 months left for my study permit expiration.

any idea or suggestion from your experience

Impossible for me to say whether you will be approved or denied. What matters most is the end date of your program versus the last day of your study permit.

I applied for open work permit for my husband.
Approved on-26 aug
File applied on 12th feb.
During last semester(jan-April2020).
My study visa expire date was 31 july 2020.
and I applied my work permit on 16 june.
but I never updated anything for husband’s file to ircc bcz I am waiting for my work permit approval (no NoC A,B job).

I will be getting married by the end of October, so can my spouse apply for SOWP after we will have all thé required documents proving our marriage.

she can apply but it would be hard to get SOWP for your spouse because marriage is recent and according to experts you should be atleast married for more than 2 years for this SOWP but it all depends upon luck as well

It’s better to apply after getting work permit post your studies . Because if you will be applying now it gonna take 90 to 120 days for processing because of COVID-19. And you will be having marginal time .
You should have minimum of 6 months of student visa if apply for SOWP.

You can apply anytime during your studies. Usually better chance if you are on your PGWP and in skilled employment.

I applied for spouse open work on 5th oct 2020,Biometrics are done because my husband had done that in July 2019 after that no update on application.Could please tell me how much time they are taking for spouse open work permit
