Hello there, I would like to ask, can a spouse of an international student can become a PR someday if:
1. The spouse which is under open work permit (OWP) get a regular job and offered a regular working permit by an employer?
2. Are there any instances like this before, where the spouse (with OWP) instead get hired and offered and not the Principal (Student) being hired.
3. Would that be possible? Because I believe Spouse are here to help their (student) spouse financially, and they will leave Canada once the student permit is over (and if no employer has offered job for the student that make him become a regular worker in Canada).
4. Please reply with insights as we have so many questions like this. Especially students with spouses and children came here from the Philippines..
Thanks in advance.

Spouses of international students are not guaranteed a SOWP. Some get accepted others are refused.

An OWP is a regular work permit. It is better than most people on a work permit who are limited to one employer under a closed work permit. An employer can apply for an LMIA and the employee can apply for a closed work permit if the employer would like the employee to keep working for them. It is a 4-6 month process. Most spouses will be able to get another SOWP when their spouse gets PGWP and a job in NOV 0, A or B.

Once the spouse gets their OWP they can remain until the end of the. OWP irregardless of their spouse,

If you explain your actual scenario it would be helpful.

Hi Canuck, thanks for the prompt response.
My Friend is here in Canada as a student accompanied by his wife and 2 kids. His wife is now working as an OWP. The wife said she might be hired or sponsored by her current company as regular employee and asking if she gets sponsored.
1- In her status now as a spouse open working permit can she be sponsored by a company and become a regular worker holding a LMIA?
2- Her husband cannot be guaranteed to get a job after finishing his diploma, so option is his wife to become a regular worker, would this be alright?
