Do you have an idea about the time line? Should I expect it to take more than one year?

They dont all take over 1 year...
I just had a friend go through mexico city.
she was denied refugee in canada,
and applied through mexico in august,
she was just approved last week and is headed back to canada.

so that is 6 months for the entire process including step one

and interview is not always necessary.

there are three of us on the mexico thread right now that were failed refugee and none of us had an interview and we are at the very end of the process waiting for the arc answer

just because you were a failed refugee does not say u will get an interview, it still depends on your evidence just like any other case
:)

:) I was paranoid when we started too, but ive been following failed refugee cases for over a year now, So i have seen alot of things happen, and as long as you are in a true relationship, provide sufficient quality evidence, it is no harder than someone who was not a refugee, it just takes a bit more time.

Thanks! I am glad to know I am not the only one haha

It also makes a difference if the person was denied refugee status and left voluntarily - or if they were denied and then deported. If the person was deported then an ARC is required to return which typically adds several months to the processing time.

It doesnt matter if you left voluntarily or not.

if you were a refugee and were denied, you will get an ARC no matter what. the only way you wont
is if you were a refugee and when you went to your hearing, you withdraw/cancel your refugee status right up front than leaving.

in that case you wont be asked for the ARC.

Oh wow, this is DEFINITELY encouraging. Thanks :)

I'm also a failed refugee, and I was just requested my ARC a month ago wich puts us at 8 months after filing our application. Our lawyer (I don't know if correct) said the ARC is one of the last steps before they ask for a passport. Right now we are just waiting to hear from them as to the result of the ARC, and as of today it's been almost 10 months since filing. We hope this whole deal is done before the 1 year. And we haven't heard of any interview yet. Don't be discouraged from people since every case is different and each Visa office. Just make sure you provide the information they request and worry about your own process wich is hard already as it is for you to worry about what others have to say. I wish you the best of luck!

Thats great!!
Yes ARC is the last thing before final approval and PPR.
and as for the general interview regarding relationship evidence etc. they would ask for it before asking for the ARC. so I would say it has been waived. They usually will never ask for the ARC unless you have already past all the clearances before that, eligibility, medical, police checks etc. :)

You should be hearing something very soon! :)

Thanks lissaP !

We hope that's our case and that this wait will soon be over!

By the way leisaP,

You have been waiting for your ARC since October? Will they contact me with the decision?

Yeah, we sent our ARC in october, but we had some other problems, like for instance they didnt ask for our RCMP BEFORE the arc... which is usually what they do. so we did the rcmp after the arc which caused a 1.5 month delay
and than on top of that they asked for some court documents from my husband and they were not specific, so we ended up sending them the wrong papers. so we are in the process of getting them the correct paperwork and hopefully we will finalize in the next month or so.

so our case was a little weird compared to most.

that last couple ARC that went through mexico city were 2 months or under. one of them was 2 Weeks!!
and yes they will email you asking for your passport :)
