Spouse gets visit visa. Can it be converted to Study/Work Permit after landing.

My own application for CIC for immigration (from with in Canada) is under review and I wanted to know if my wife can enter canada and get study permit from with in Canada. She already has admission for classes starting September

If she gets or have Visit Visa to Canada then she can convert her visit visa to Study/Work permit after submitting the required documents once she lands in Canada..

What did you mean by "landing"? Landing in immigration term is to become a PR. A PR does not need a study permit or work permit.

If you meant that while your application for PR is in process your wife visits Canada as a visitor and want to apply for study permit, she needs to leave country, unless the program is 6 months or shorter. Those shorter term programs do not require a study permit.

Hello AnaMaria,

Thanks. Landing not as a PR, I just used generic term.

Are you sure that the person has leave Canada and re-enter for study permit. Can the person not apply from with in Canada and stay in Canada

If she enters on a visit visa, she won't be able to change her status to worker or student inside Canada. She has to apply outside Canada.

Are you sure about that. I actually looked on CIC website and answered bunch of questions to determine eligiblity (one of the question was that asked if spouse is in Canada and I answered Yes).

And I know a person who came to Canada on visit visa and converted to work permit as her husband was on work permit in Canada

You still have to go out of the country or "flagpole" in order to get that status because the border agent has to sign papers.
