Hi,
My Canadian wife[Sponsor] and I [PA] have been living in the UK for the last 5 years.
The IMM5533 / Supporting documents for sponsor / Employment / Source of support indicates that we need to provide 'an original letter from your current employer stating your period of employment, salary, and regular hours per week' as well as the relevant tax assessment.

We have generated her tax assessment from the HMRC website but feel that asking her boss for a letter may arouse a little suspicion of our plans to leave. This question, seems to me to be aimed more at sponsors who already reside in Canada and will continue in employment from the referee.
Would a covering letter accompanying her tax assessment outlining her employment status be sufficient in this case?

Thanks!

Hi

I was in the exact same situation when working in the UK. I wrote a letter explaining I couldn't risk my job at the time and included my original offer letter and some recent payslips in place. No issues.

I am a Canadian citizen from Quebec wiling to sponsor my husband. We live together outside of Canada.
I dont understand what kind of documents to I need to provide as employment/source of support?
I just finished my studies and now we are both volunteering in the Army of the country we live in. So i dont have any proof to show that i could support him .
should i write a detailed explanation that we will work in Canada and support eachother?

Hi RPWallace, I see from the timeline you've updated that your spouse has been approved as a sponsor. I'd really appreciate if you could tell me what other documentation, if any, that you included for this section. And also what you included in your letter. Thanks.

Hi,
We wrote a covering letter explaining that we didn’t want to risk her job by asking for an employer referral so we included her original job offer, a few salary slips and her tax return. All was fine in that regard. Proving her intent to reside in Canada was another matter which led to further document requests.

That's good to hear, not so much about intent to return. Any tips for that hurdle? Thanks
