If you mention something on the application you'll have to provide proof. Otherwise they will automatically send you this letter requesting the documentation as lyluk got. I don't know what will happen if you don't submit them: will they proceed without taking into account said degree? Or will they get "upset" and reject the application? Lyluk, was your application successful after not submitting the certificates?
In order to avoid the hassle and uncertainty, I know people who chose not to mention a degree or a work experience at all because they didn't have documentation for it and/or it wasn't relevant for the points.
This was indeed the case until a year or so ago, but currently (as of the August 2015 scoring grid) they do give 1 extra point if the spouse has a master's or a PhD. So if anyone from the future is reading this thread, make sure you use the latest scoring grid (or whatever tool they have in the future!) to calculate your points.
