I am the principal applicant and have already received my ECA. Do I need to apply for my wife's ECA as well? She is a doctor so can you also suggest where would I need to get her ECA from if required?

Thanks

Riz

Hi rizmustafa,

While you do not necessarily need your wife's ECA to be able to create your own profile (and become part of the pool) with you as the primary applicant, it certainly does help the score if you are able to get one.

Essentially, when creating the Express Entry profile, the form asks you to fill out both a.) If your wife has a post secondary degree & b.) If the Non-Canadian post-seondary degree has an ECA. If you answer 'Yes' to the second, then it will further ask you for the ECA reference number, thus you need to have the ECA before you answer a 'Yes' to the second question.

Personally, I just created my profile and submitted it to be part of the pool recently. My spouse got the ECA after my application became part of the pool, so I went in and edited my application to indicate the updated ECA details (I answered No to the first question earlier, and after geeting the ECA, went in and edited the profile to say 'Yes' for the second question).

I myself am expecting that the CRS score will go up by 8 points, I know which may not be a lot, but can also be a deciding difference sometimes.

One thing to note, is, if you make edits to your profile, it may take up to 1 full business day for your score to get updated (eg. I updated my profile Friday night and am expecting my score to get updated Monday night, i.e. Sat & Sun not counted).

Hope that helps (thumbs up if it did :))

Another tip based on personal experience. If you edit your EE profile after the first time you submit it, after making the update, DO NOT FORGET that you need to complete your submission (there is button at the bottom of your EE applicaiton details screen which says 'Continue'). That was a little misleading to me as the Continue button did not register in my mind as required for submission.

Each time you officially 'submit' the app, you are asked to enter your First/Given Name(s) and your last name. After a submisison is complete, it can take upto 24 hours for your score to get updated.

Hello Brother...

Now since you have received your ECA, I would suggest you to go ahead for Pool Entry if your accumulate score is over 415 CRS Points... because your Spouse is a Doctor and getting a Doc's ECA is pain in Canada and would roughly Cost you about 600 CAD the process is as follows:

1. You Wife is required to registered at http://physiciansapply.ca/ and register a account which cost 280 CAD one time fees.
2. Then you are required to submit your documents for SOURCE VERIFICATION that can take upto 3 Months and cost around 160 CAD for each Credential (********Extra for Translation if your Credentials are not in English or French around 140 CAD Per Page***********)
3. After Source Verification has done then you can go ahead and apply for ECA that can take upto 21 Days Post Source Verification and cost around 104 CAD.

so basically your spouse score is not going to make a big difference in overall score (Roughly 8 or maybe 10 Points MAX but for IELTS she can claims upto 20 Points depends how well she does it) so she should go ahead and take IELTS test and claim points for that...

I Hope to Help... if you like then give me a Thumbs up...

Best of Luck

Hello brother,

Thank you so much for your note and suggestions. Fortunately, my ITA has already come through without spouse's ECA or IELTS score. I am in process of putting together the documents now to submit before my IELTS results expire. Thank you once again
