Dear All,

Today, I have received my Spouse's ECA from WES, with following Summary:

Bachelor's degree (three years and bachelor's degree (four years)

Following are her qualification details from Pakistan:

  • BS(IT) - 04 Years Bachelors (honors)
  • MBA(Banking) - 02 Years Masters

I was expecting WES would provide equivalence with 'Two or More Degrees' OR 'Masters Degree'.

I would appreciate, if you assist me in below queries:

  • Should I write back to WES to ractify this issue, or this equivalence summary is OK? As in Pakistan, it's 18 Years Education.

  • While Creating EE profile, I should choose 'Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees' OR 'Bachelor's degree OR a three or more year program at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute' or 'Master's degree'

  • What would be the resulted impact in EE profile, in terms of Spouse's ECA points, i.e. breakdown ?

Thanks in advance!

You can try to write to WES but it will not be of any use. They think their decision is final. You can try another organisation.

Enter the education in the EE system according to the WES report and the EE system will calculate the points automatically.

Here is the list of Universities that is recognized by WES : wwwDOTwesDOTorg/required/acceptedpakistanunivbywes.pdf. Is your spouse's MBA from one of these Universities? If yes, contact WES.

Yes, I checked, the University is in the List. This is what they have written against her MBA:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Credential Authentication: Transcripts were verified by the institution
Country: Pakistan
Credential: Master of Business Administration
Year: 2009
Awarded by: University of Karachi
Status: Recognized Institution
Major/Specialization: Banking and Finance
Canadian Equivalency: Bachelor's degree (four years)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How come they have not considered MBA as Masters Degree, after four years bachelors completion (i.e. BS(IT)).

In EE Profile, what should I choose from Options, stated in my above Q.2?

I think you should get in touch with WES. You loose points because of their mistake!

its a specific word used to describe WES, since its a family site i censored it...

try using IQAS. a whatsapp colleague of mine did the same and successfully got the extra points he needed... you can try to appeal decision against WES but i think its a waste of time...

The Same Word I am restrained to use, can't imagine my frustration here, applied in Sept-2016, today got ECA with wrong results.

I know it would be no vain to appeal the decision, but i will give it a try.

Prior to that, I just want to confirm BSIT (16 yrs) + MBA (18 yrs) = Masters Degree in Canada? Right? How come they can write MBA = Bechlors 4 years...

MBA is supposed to be masters only... MA or MCOM probably is 2 degrees or more from what i remember...

WOW it took 7 months for you to get the report and it sounds frustrating, You should try to reach out to WES and see if there could be any correction.

check the Degree Equivalency Tool provided by WES to confirm that you get the same result and does the program have a project (capstone) or thesis ?

i had a similar situation with my spouse's Master of Arts ( English). this program do not have a written thesis or project.. based on information given by WES on Masters, it seems the degree should have a written thesis or project to be considered as Canadian Masters?. if not then they give 4 year bachelors.. anyways contact WES to be clear..

"Master’s Degree - A post-baccalaureate degree in a specified field, awarded on the basis of completion of coursework (usually 1-3 years of study) and often a written thesis or project "
