Hello All,
I am a Canadian Citizen, my wife is on asylum in Turkey. We married 6 months ago. I befriended my wife on a facebook group around 9 months ago. I am currently living in Turkey with my wife. I would like to sponsor her under family sponsorship. I would like to come back to Canada to join work. Should I apply for visitor visa first or family sponsorship is better. Since my wife is on asylum in Turkey but she is from Syria would there be any major challenges in sponsoring her? Looking forward to everyone's valuable suggestions. Thank you.

She can apply for the TRV either before or after you submit the spousal sponsorship application. Both are options. For a TRV you being married will make it a bit harder for her and in my opinion a very slim chance of success so you will need to build a strong profile. As for additional challenges with sponsorship because of her home country and current status in Turkey as a refugee I personally do not know

I would subit the spousal sponsorship application as soon as you can. Given she has asylum status in Turkey, the chances of a TRV being approved are unfortunately extremely low.

@scylla, thank you for your response. May I know the reason why are you suggesting to submit spousal sponsorship application sooner? I also have another doubt should she stay in Turkey thru the entire process of application or can we move to another country as well? (I have dual citizenship from my country of origin)

Based on the information in your first post, I thought you were looking to relocate to Canada soon. That's why I recommended you submit the spousal sponsorship application as soon as you can. A TRV is unlikely to be approved and processing times for spousal sponsorship are well over a year right now. So if you want to return to Canada soon and together with your spouse, then you'll want to submit the sponsorship application as soon as you can.

To get approved for a TRV you have to show strong ties to your home country (job, property, spouse/children, etc.), have enough savings to afford your visit, etc. Given that your spouse is from Syria and may or may not be working her ties are very weak and so the chance that she is only visiting Canada and will return home are weak which is why TRV will likely be denied. If you want to remain together during the sponsorship application you will likely have to live outside of Canada. You will have to show that you will return after your spouse secures PR and that you have the funds to support your family in Canada. It sounds like you may have gotten married shortly after meeting online and on your first visit to meet each other. IRCC prefers that people don’t get married after only meeting once so if you did get married on your first visit it is actually a good to spend some time living together so that you have proof of your relationship. I would make sure you are documenting your life together by taking pictures together during different excursions, family events, etc.

@canuck78 many thanks for responding on my post. I did get married shortly after meeting online. One issue is the neither of our family members were present in our wedding and I am not from Turkey. I would like to take my wife to my country of origin which is India where my family is. If I sponsor my wife for PR down the line say after an year our our relationship, will she require a police certificate etc. from Syria (her original passport) and Turkey (where she was in asylum for an year) as well as from India?

She’ll need to follow the application requirements so yes PCCs from all countries will be required. As long as yoyr spouse can get a visa to enter India and has no problems entering Canada at the airport you can relocate to India.
