Travel history is previous travel information (in our case, places visited by your spouse before this visa application) outside your country.

Did your spouse travel outside India in the past ?
Did your spouse always maintained a legal status while staying abroad ?

They evaluate this kind of stuff. May be you did not submit enough documentation to prove you have a good travel history ?

Sorry to hear abt that but I think you might have not submitted enough documentation , You should follow this approach :

1..current employment.

If One Partner is already working in Canada and other one applying for spouse work permit from outside Canada then the person who is already in Canada can show his/her

Copy of Employment Contract in Canada / Canada Work Permit Copy / Canadian Employment Offer Letter Copy

Other person who is outside Canada and wants to apply for WP then if that person is in Job then that person can show
His Employment Letter / Current Salary slips etc.

2. travel history..

You should have filled following form :
IMM5257B Schedule 1

Fill Question 8
Previous Travel

( You can attach copies of Work Permit / Visa / Immigration Entry and Exit Stamps on passport as Proof of travel)

3. family tie in canada and india
Should have filled following form :

FAMILY INFORMATION IMM5645E

4. personal assets and financial status

Your Pay Stubs in Canada
Your Bank Account Statements .

I was talking about the WP for a Spouse where one Spouse is Working in Canada on WP.

Your case is Spouse Work Permit for a Canadian Student's spouse. I think in your case you can Show Spouse's Study Permit Copy, Her Student Visa copy and if she is working 20hrs legally on Student permit then you can show her Pay Statements if she gets any pay statement monthly.

May be visa officer wants to know your current Employment in your Home Country as well so you can show your Employment Details , like your Employment Letter, Your salary Slips etc..

@ mac2000gh you are refering to an old form , Forms were updated in Dec 2012 I think.

Anyways for the latest list of forms Check this link : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/work.asp

IMM 5257 - Schedule 1 Link for Downloading this form: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5257B_1.pdf

If still you are poointing to old form then Delete your Browser History and try downloading the forms again.

Thanks for your response, you are right that I referred to the old schedule1 form. I have a few more questions for you:
my spouse is applying for an open work permit outside Canada, and do you think it is advisable for her to use me as a representative (
Use of a Representative [IMM 5476]?"
she has completed the following, I hope they the right forms

Application for Work Permit Made Outside Canada [IMM 1295]
Family Information [IMM 5645]
Schedule 1 – Application for Temporary Resident Visa [IMM 5257 - Schedule 1]

Also, she using a letter from her employer stating her Annual Leave period (it's about month). Will it be a problem since she is applying for an open work permit that is longer than one month? She can't resign from her work because that won't be a wise decision at this early stage.

How serious is the travel history? My wife has no travel history. She has a well paid job, and so do I. My job falls under category O.

The application fee for open work permit is $150, and this covers both the work permit and the TRV, right?

AND you can add any suggestions or comments you have for me as we together my wife's application.

I think no harm in keeping your name as Representative and filling Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] form, like this you will officially have access to your wife's application as her representative .

she has completed the following, I hope they the right forms
Pick the forms / checklist from the link I pasted above and I believe those forms are latest ones.

My understanding says that no point in Showing any leave approval letters at this stage, Because she is applying for WP and she has only 1 month leave so just show an Employment Letter stating from her employer stating that your spouse is currently working at that organization since ( time Period ) and her ( designation ) , Attach Pay Stubs of last three months and Income Tax Returns of last 3 yrs . Show Bank account Statements of yourself and your spouse of last three month . Attach any property or investments proofs you guys have in Home country.
I think this is a generic understanding that she can't risk of resigning a home country job without getting WP approval from Canada, I am not aware about any such requirement from CIC which says that a person must resign his/her job before applying for WP .

How serious is the travel history? My wife has no travel history. She has a well paid job, and so do I. My job falls under category O.

I am not sure how serious is travel history, because if she has not traveled outside home country then you can't create that history forcefully by any artificial means. Travel history just creates a credibility that a person has traveled outside home country before and he/she might return back to home country after expiry date of visa as that person has good history from past travels. But every person needs visa to travel and if every country issues visa by checking past travels then how a person will get visa the very first time. Catch 22 situation .

The application fee for open work permit is $150, and this covers both the work permit and the TRV, right?
Correct

AND you can add any suggestions or comments you have for me as we together my wife's application.

Good Luck with your application.

There is another side to Travel History apart from the obvious one of abiding by rules and returning home. Travel outside your home country FOR PERSONAL REASONS rather than business carries the most weight. It indicates that you are sufficiently established to be able to afford holidays like this. It shows that your employment potential at home is good and increases the incentive to return home. If one has not traveled abroad, provide cover letter with rationale (family responsibilities, education/work constraints, extensive travel in home country, etc). All the best.

Thank you so much, that was thorough. I waited for your response over the weekend but it was not forth coming; my wife submitted the application just today. I think we included everything you covered in your response except the "representative" bit that I missed. we hope for the best. Thanks once again.

According to my wife she given back the Schedule 1 – Application for Temporary Resident Visa [IMM 5257 - Schedule 1], the person that received her application says she doesn't need it. Meanwhile she needs visa because is not Canada; what is going on?
