Hi,

I have recently applied for an open work permit from inside Canada (Sep 18, 2012). My spouse is a PGWP holder with a skill A job. We have heard mixed response from people about the accept/reject cases of such applications. I wanted to know if anyone has applied for work permit as a spouse recently, it would be very helpful if you could share your experience.

We are also thinking of flagpoling as an option - that is, going to the US border and apply at the POE while re-entering Canada to receive the work permit. I would appreciate any one to share their valuable recent experiences.

Would really appreciate some response from seniors in the forum, or from people in similar situation.

Thanks.

Hi all,

Just got my work permit approved. Applied on Sep 18, got approved on November 28. I called the cic helpline to inquire and they told me.

Thanks everyone for their support and I appreciate everyone sharing their stories which has proven very helpful.

Good Luck all.

Without a US Visa, flagpolling is not an option.
Hi ThreeSquareImm,
I recently had same situation. My spousal open work permit was rejected by CIC. The reason is that they cannot verify my wife's NOC skill type. I called them to clarify my wife's NOC skill type. The CIC officer said they will consider to reopen my case.

Just in case, my reopen case was rejected again.

I have a US visa valid till Dec 10,2012, but I am NOT from a visa exempt country. Can I go to flagpolling to apply my open work permit again?

Thank you.

Congrats!! mdd2011.

Hi everyone,
I am stuck very bad for Applying Open work permit of my common law partner. I am on pgw working as not B. Category. For 2 months
We have lived together for more than a year now and have her on rental lease agreement. I just added her to my account and credit card.
We have known each other for 5 years now.
Please advice how can she fill for open work permit on my pgw, her pgw is expiring in a month. She has applied for a closed work permit tht we expect by end of December. Unfortunately the employer is running out of business.
Please advise waiting for your responses.

Cheers.

Mdd2011.......i also applied for open work permit as my spouse is holding a PGWP and NOC-2175 (NOC-A) job but we havn't asked his employer to write the noc code on his employment letter assuming they can find by themselves, he is "web developer" . So I am worried if they will refuse my application as i forgot to mention specifically his code. If anyone can mention what all they require to me there in the employment letter of your spouse beside job name; salary , benefits; and hours

thank you in advance.

Hi neetu1,
My spouse's employment letter (that I provided to CIC) did not contain the NOC code. However I provided the original job posting separately which had the NOC code. I applied online, and also provided the NOC in some of the answers to the questions asked in the form (such as "Why do you not need an LMO?").

According to the CIC guidelines, you only need to provide the Letter of employment, Payslips and copy of your spouse's Work Permit. If you have provided that, then you should be ok.

thank you very much mddd2011............

actually i was first trying to apply online where there were questions where i could write NOC code but i couldn't able to upload all the documents as they asked only for passport copy so I changed my mind and filled out the paper application. Yes I attached his pay slips, letter of contract and recent employment letter clearly mentioning his job title; salary; benefits and number of hours. But from the job title they can easily figure out the NOC-Code (I Wish they have lists :p) so I guess it will be fine............fingers crossed :-\

But thanks a TON!!! I really appreciate your quick reply!!!!!

1. Until she gets her PGWP and a job you can't do anything.
2. Once she gets a job and if it is in NOC A.B or O,then she has to get a letter outlining her job duties which you include with your application for a SOWP.
