Spousal visa sent to Vancouver local office

Hi,

I was hoping someone could give me some insight on my spousal visa application. It was received by CIC in late September 2017 at CPC - Mississauga. I have passed my medical exam and my background checks are 'processing', however my Review of Eligibility says: "Your application is in process. We will send you a message when we start reviewing your eligibility".

I called CIC today to get a better understanding of what the eligibility review was about and what exactly they would be reviewing. They told me that my application was being sent to the Vancouver CIC office for further verification. The CIC call centre agent was not able to give me any information in regards to what that means.

Does anyone have any idea? What are they reviewing in the eligibility and why is my case file being sent to Vancouver? Should I be worried?

My husband is Canadian Citizen and I am an Australian citizen. I'm in Canada on an open work permit, however this was obtained separate to the permit offered with a spousal visa.

The Application status says: We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you.

Review of additional documents: The additional documents you provided have been uploaded.

Any insight would be great.

Hi

Applications are generally only sent to local offices if there are concerns with the app that may require an interview. Do you have any red flags?

I suggest you order your GCMS notes.

I'm not sure if there are red flags. Oddly enough when I called CIC they told me my application was in transit and had not technically left CPC yet. The person I was speaking to said she wasn't even sure when it was going to be sent.

I also reside in AB, so I'm not sure why it's being sent to BC. She wasn't sure either as there were no notes on my file as to why it was being sent, so she told me to submit a query through the webform - just confirming my address is the same.

I guess no point in ordering the notes based on the above.

I asked the Agent about the transfer before receiving AIP and she said that doesn't mean there are red flags.

Not sure what to do. Guess just sit tight.

Wouldn't be surprised if the call center just gave you completely inaccurate info. They do that a lot.

If the app was being transferred to a local office for review, it would at least be sent to an office in your province. It is likely a mistake by the Call Centre; they screw up a lot.

An update! (Although I had to contact them)

Apparently inland spousal visa's that were received in June 2017 (to I'm not sure when but includes September 2017) have been sent to a new team in Vancouver for processing, to help with the caseload in CPC Mississauga. This team usually deals with 'Irregular Immigration' which is where irregular borders crossings or asylum into Canada are sent, however also helps out Mississauga on occasion.

CIC will not be sending a formal letter, as it has not been sent for 'further verification'.

Apparently they are processing June 2017 applications right now, so they're a full year out. Hopefully they honour the 12month processing time.

Interesting if true, though I do take anything said by the Call Centre with a grain of salt. I've never seen them send spousal apps to Vancouver before, with the exception of the few that needed interviews.

I would definitely still order GCMS notes. There should be more detailed info about the transfer.

You need to order GCMS notes. Files are not generally transferred to local offices for eligibility unless there are concerns and an interview is likely.
