I`m a PR of Canada since 1984 so I have lived here most of my life. I was recently married to an Egyptian man in Egypt and would like to sponsor him to come live with me in Canada my income is CPP Disability so my concerns are my income of course and altho I have read here there is no min income requirements people have told me the opposite so I`m just asking again to be sure sorry ??? Also I was hoping after filing since we were just married I could go stay with him In Egypt until they make a decision after reading here it doesn`t seem like it`s possible :( does anyone know if u can ask permission for this ??? I would be so appreciative for any knowledgeable advise thank you in advance. :) Debra

As a PR, you cannot leave Canada and reside in Egypt during sponsorship application processing. Sorry but it's a legal requirement.

There is no specific income requirement, but you must be able to satisfy CIC that you will not draw welfare after your spouse arrives in Canada. If your disability income isn't enough to support the two of you without additional assistance, you will need to show how you two will support yourselves (what are his skills/plans for working in Canada, etc.).

As Zardoz said, because you are a PR, you must reside in Canada for the duration of the application process. You may visit him in Egypt, but only for a brief time (no "living" there).

Thank You so much for ur replies . He is a resident Dr. In Egypt and would like to continue his career in Canada but will have to do exams and things when he gets there which takes money so it will take a little time but that`s his goal. Is there anyway he can come there even for a visit while were waiting the process its along time to be separated and very expensive to travel back and forth only for a short visit altho I`m not sure what a short visit means exactly. Any info is greatly appreciated . Thank u in advance. Debra

A short visit is no more than about 2 weeks. It's also best to not visit more than 2-3 times a year, as more absences risk the application.

Sorry to tell you that the chances of your husband being approved for a TRV are low. In order to get a TRV, a person must show stronger ties to their home country than to Canada; CIC generally believes that a spouse in Canada is stronger than any home country tie. He can still apply, approval is rare but it does happen. He would need to show significant ties to Egypt.

Yes - if you are a Canadian citizen then you can apply to sponsor your spouse while living outside of Canada.

No - there is no way of speeding up the process of becoming a Canadian citizen.

He may be able to visit you, but it can be hard for a foreign spouse to get a visa. He will need to apply for a visa and demonstrate significant ties to his home country. You say he's a doctor. Can his employer write him a letter stating that he has been granted (two weeks/three weeks/a month) of leave and is expected back at work after his visit? Does he have a lease, a mortgage, or a home deeded in his name? All significant ties that he can demonstrate to show he will return to Egypt after he visits you will help with his visa application.

If you choose to visit him, as others have said, it needs to be a relatively short visit (2-3 weeks) to show that you are still maintaining residence in Canada.

Thank you everyone for ur replies again. Does it hurt the process if it shows him being refused from a visitors visa ? Could he just do a visitors visa and not mention me he does have a friend from Egypt who lives in Canada ? Just a thought . Thanks again , Debra

When he applies for the visitor visa, he absolutely has to mention that he has a wife and will have to say that you are in Canada. Failing to do this is misrepresntation which will most likely result in a 2 year ban from Canada - and will also impact your PR application.

Having one refused visitor visa will not harm the PR application. Go ahead and apply. But again, don't lie about the fact that he has a wife and where you are living.
