Spousal Sponsorship

I got my PR in 2023. Then in 2024 I got married to my boyfriend in my country. My problem is that our marriage was solemnized under article 34(meaning 5 years conhabitation). I got pressed by time due to my short vacation and the time it will take to get a marriage license. How will it affect my sponsorship to him? Can i just make an explanation letter truthfully saying that we resorted to using article 34 due to time constraint?

If you present a document showing that you legally married without a license because you had been cohabiting for five years (as you say article 34 works), then yes, IRCC might (reasonably) say that you lied about being single when you became a PR and cannot ever sponsor him.

This was a bad decision in terms of ways to save time.

Yes. On our marriage certificate it shows the no marriage license necessary due to article 34 of family code.
Bluntly, serious problem. Your best option may be to go for annulment. That may not be realistic either given PH legal system.

You can consult a lawyer but I think you should assume that IRCC is aware (or will find out quickly, they have the internet too) what Article 34 means.

You've created this problem and its quite likely it will take years to fix it, if it can be done at all.
