Hi @canuck_in_uk,

I am applying to sponsor my spouse under family class, we got married in January 2020 and we’ve been engaged since March 2019.

I applied for my own PR in July 2019 but didn’t mention anything about my then fiancée in the application, would it be considered misrepresentation? Are fiancée considered dependents as per IRCC?

P.S - We didn’t live together during the engagement period, I live in Canada, she lives back home.

Thank you in advance!

Fiancees aren't dependents. If you only just applied in July, when did you actually land as a PR?

Hello,
I am a canadian citizen who is trying to sponsor my Colombian partner under the Conjugal category stating border closures as exceptional circumstances. We have been together for over 1.5 years and lived together for 8 months then got separated because I was finishing my studies in Finland and his visa expired and he needed to return to colombia. Our plan was for me to get to Colombia and stay for a year as soon as I graduated to be eligible to apply for common law and come back to canada. however, with covid 19 I have been banned from colombia and lost the job opportunity i had there. i have a job here in canada that i can return to and have all the documents to prove that i can be a financial support. we have looked into the application and have everything it needs but before spending the money on getting that done, do you think we have a chance?

Given that you were already living together and chose to stop for personal reasons and that the border closures are a temporary measure, I would say your chances at conjugal are close to nil.

Yes. There was nothing preventing you from living together for the one year before except your choice.

Thank you again but I need one last try: The fact that my partner could no longer stay in Europe for immigration reasons (his visa was rejected) is not enough of a reason? I was a resident of Finland at the time. It is true that I chose to finish my masters and that is what separated us when he could no longer stay but does a commitment to studies not consistute something important? We do not believe in marriage and that is why we did not get married, which in canadian gvt documents is stated as being an acceptable stance to take.

There is no query in your post.

I landed in November 2019 and went back home in January 2020 to get married.

Just FYI, I applied under CEC and have been living in Canada since 2016.

P.S - We didn’t live together during the engagement period, I live in Canada, she lives back home.

Conjugal requires legal and immigration barriers. You had neither. You could have gone to Colombia with your partner but chose to complete your studies. Personal choices do not qualify people for conjugal.
