Hi everyone,

im new here. i just want to know some things...

we are about to submit my sponsorship inland. Im holding a multiple entry visa to expire on may 2014. i arrived here last june 12 , 2013, then left foe the US after a few weeks then came back here on 1st July 2013. questions are:

1. Is it safe to say that my TRV will expire 6 months after July 1? or June 12? (BTW i was here also last Dec 2012 til 1st week of Jan for a holiday, does that include in the counting?)

Do you have a passport stamp from June 12 or July 1st. The last date you have a passport stamp from + 6 months is your expiry date.


2. should i apply for an extension of TRV separate from the sponsorship application?

No, if you apply inland, you should apply for an open work permit together with your application package. This will give you implied status to stay in Canada after your visit status officially expires. It takes around 10-11 months right now to get first stage approval and open work permit. You should not leave while you are under implied status and it's not a good idea to leave anyway while applying inland.


3. when we submit the application for sponsorship. do we need to submit the medical together with it or wait for them to ask for it?

You may wait for them to ask for it for inland. If you choose to have it up front, keep in mind that the medicals are only valid for 12 months so it may expire and you may need to re-do it.

4. I am a Filipino national being sponsored by a Canadian Citizen (filipino also) and Im a Singapore PR working there before i came here. I know Im supposed to get a police clearance from SG also but they will only issue with a letter of appeal as per SG's policy. It was mentioned in the CIC website that they will give us a letter of appeal after they receive our application. Im worried that they will look for it and considered our application incomplete. Should we include the POLICE CLEARANCE APPLICATION for Singapore in our application just so they know we need to have their letter of appeal to get the clearance or just leave it to them to send me the appeal, will they be able to automatically know that i need one?

Send a letter asking them for a letter of appeal so you can get your police clearance from Singapore.

Thank you so much Leon. You been such a great help. Ive been following this thread recently and its helping me a lot preparing for this.

As for my stamp. I was first stamped last june 12 when i arrived here, then i went to US, so when i came back i was stamped again on that date which is July 1. So it's July 1, right?

Hi Leon, I have a question for you. The final document was received before the visa officer drive to Decision Made and the final review will be October 30,2013. Here is my question: Will the VO grant or deny the application on that day? Please people comment on my question or sen me a link for a similar case. Thanks

We are planning a religious ceremony in Colombo for Dec 2013 since we did a simple wedding before. Her visa expires....you guessed it...on November 10, 2013. My family and I were planning to visit Colombo for the wedding and I also had plans for honeymoon. Moreover, she hasn't given any notice at work for quitting.

My question is can we apply for a visa extension until January 2014? This will give the wife enough time to wrap everything up in Colombo (religious ceremony, our honeymoon and the job) before she comes to Canada.

If not, what are our options?

It's not entirely clear what visa you are asking about. Is it the PR visa? Has your wife been approved for permanent residency? If so, then extensions are not possible. It's a use it or lose it policy and she must land on or before November 10th - or the visa is forfeited and she must start the application process again from scratch. Assuming I understand the situation correctly, her only option is to make a trip to Canada before November 10th to land and become a PR and then return to her home country. She can permanently relocate to Canada at a later date once she's ready.

Then it's July 1st but as long as you have applied for sponsorship and open work permit at the same time before Dec. 12th, you will have implied status regardless so it will not be an issue even if immigration feels it should be June 12th.

She can return after a weeks stay. It currently takes 70 days for a PR card of a new PR to arrive, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp and in some cases it can take longer so if you want to have her PR card before she wants to return again in January, she should land as soon as possible. When she arrives, she should say as little as possible. Saying that she only plans to stay for a week can cause them to hold the PR card off until she is back to stay.

If the PR card has not arrived by the time she wants to return to Canada, she would need a travel document but the processing time to get one varies. In some embassies, it takes several weeks. If the PR card does arrive, you can mail it to her or have it couriered by UPS/FedEx.

As far as I know, they mail it to the address she gives them when she lands as a PR and nobody has to sign for it.

If you sponsored her and she lands in Canada and does not give your address as the place where she will be staying, they may be suspicious that it is a marriage of convenience and that she is planning on dumping you already so it would be better to give yours. Just have someone you trust check your mail so they can mail you the PR card when it arrives.

Agreed. No one needs to sign for it. It just arrives via regular mail.

Hi,need your help.My brother is a Canadian citizen,he sponsor my mother for a PR and am included as a dependent,we have done d police report and the medical examination as required.Later we were contacted that my dad needs to do medical also even though we said he's old(84years),after my dad's medical,the doctor called that he found something in his urine test,so he should come back to be re-examined for the urine but we told the doctor to send the first medical cos the old man is not travelling. My fear is,hope my dad's medical won't affect our application?

Your father MUST pass the medical - even if he's not coming to Canada. If your father does not pass the medical then your whole family's application will be refused. Your father must complete the additional test requested by immigration. If he doesn't, that will lead to a refusal of your family's application as well. Your doctor should not send the first medical again - this is the wrong thing to do. You doctor needs to run the test that have been requested and submit these results to CIC.

the point is,my dad has a stroke now and he is not ill to travel another 5hours journey again
