Agreed. Not all VOs return evidence. We got zero back. So only include evidence you're willing to never see again. If you have a card you want to include but don't want to lose the original - send a photocopy.
And for the record... We sent a number of original cards (wedding, christmas, birthday). However we knew they might not be returned and were OK with losing them.

We scanned old photos and printed more recent digital photos, and then printed them on letter-size paper. This let us add captions explaining who the people in the photos were, and we didn't have to risk losing anything that we couldn't replace. It also meant that if our application got lost, we could just reprint the pictures in 10 minutes, rather than having to reassemble everything/choose new photos.

We have no idea why they choose to send back those specific items. Of all the cards for example, why only THAT one? Just as well we were not expecting anything back at all.

Hello everyone.

Guys (CanadianJeepGuy, Computergeek, Leon), I got my GCMS notes and I was wondering if it means my application is in process?
Here the main info I've got from it:

App Status: Open
App Status reason: In progress
Medicals: Passed
Elegibility Status: Recommend passed
Security: Not Started
Criminalty: Not Started
Text: Relationship seems genuine, and info/documentation available seems to support is bona fide. Would recommend to waive interview. Passed to VO.
Updated: 2013/06/05

What should I expect after this? Only security/criminalty? Maybe a couple more months? The notes date from July 18th/2013.

I appreciate your comments, thank you so much.

GCMS notes aren't very helpful as a predictive tool. "In process" just means "not done yet." It doesn't mean anyone is currently working on your file, just that the process was - at some point - begun. It could be completed tomorrow or in 6 months - it's a terribly opaque process with very little certainty.

Ivan is correct I believe. The GCMS notes are really only informative if there has been a longer delay than usual or if they are requesting more documentation. I found the last page on our GCMS notes to provide the best info for our file.
Security/Criminality screening is what takes the time. How long this will take all depends on how quickly the law enforcement agency in your country is in clearing your background.

Isn't that what the upfront police certificate letter is for?

right, i know they do the check in Canada. But CanadianJeepGuy also mentioned the time it takes for the police to do a check in the country of the applicant's origin.
