Hi Leon, it seems u are one of the experts and i need to know when a VO sends u an interview letter asking more documents and passports, is that the final stage? is that possible, after an interview, they still ask you for medicals papers ? coz i am thinking it makes more sense to ask medicals or anything before an interview, coz if they ask passports as a part of the documents needed, it supposed to be the final stage. Or not? thanks a lot...
If you are on an outland application, a request for an interview is because the VO has questions about you or your relationship. You should order a copy of your case notes. If you are in Canada, you may do so yourself without cost. Otherwise, you must authorize someone in Canada to order them on your behalf and there is a $5 fee (plus whatever the person in Canada charges, if anything.)

If you have not submitted medicals, you are not done with the process.

Here is the link for ordering case notes: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/index.asp

Good luck!

The time is published on the CIC website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp

At present they publish 63 calendar days. Thus, they should send it to you around November 19. I'd expect you would see it by 1 December.

You do not have to have a job to sponsor your husband. However, you need to be able to explain to a VO how you are going to support your husband without relying upon social assistance.

Fair warning: I hope you did not land without declaring that you had a husband. If you did not declare him previously and make him available for examination, you will not be allowed to sponsor him as he is not considered to be a member of the family class.

Thirty days is my experience. The notes would tell you why the VO wants the interview.

If you've done medicals, the VO has the option to request they be extended for a year.

An Update to the B4-

I had asked earlier in the thread regarding having to list, "every fork, knife, and spoon", on the B4. The question hung in the air, so I emailed the Border Agency. This was their response. I hope it helps others with the same question.

Before you settle in Canada, you must prepare two copies of a list, preferably typed, detailing all household and personal goods you are bringing into the country. Your list should describe the goods, giving such details as the value, make, model, and serial number of each item, particularly high-value items. Please note that we require the current value of goods, not the replacement value. The list should be divided into two parts, showing which items are accompanying the owner at the time of arrival and which items are to arrive at a later date as “goods to follow.”

For general household items such as books or clothing, a group listing and overall value is sufficient (e.g., kitchen utensils – $000). Since jewellery is difficult to describe accurately, it is best to use the wording from your insurance policy or jeweller's appraisal and to include photographs that have been dated and signed by the jeweller or a gemologist. This information makes it easier to identify the jewellery when you first enter Canada, and later if you return from a trip abroad with this jewellery.

When you arrive in Canada you will have to give your list of goods to the border services officer, even if you do not have the goods with you at the time. Based on the list of goods you submit the officer will complete Form B4, Personal Effects Accounting Document, for you, assign a file number to your B4 form, and give you a copy of the completed form as a receipt. You will need to present your copy of the form to claim free importation of your unaccompanied goods when they arrive.

Memorandum D2-2-1, Settlers' Effects - Tariff Item No. 9807.00.00, provides information about the B4 forms for people settling in Canada. It can be found at:

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d2/d2-2-1-eng.html

Should you require additional assistance with your inquiry, we recommend that you contact the Border Information Service (BIS). You can access the BIS line free of charge throughout Canada by calling 1-800-461-9999. If you are calling from outside Canada, you can access the BIS line by calling either 204-983-3500 or 506-636-5064 (long-distance charges will apply). If you call during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, except holidays), you can speak to an officer by pressing “0” after you have made a selection of one of the 4 menu options.

Thank you for contacting the Canada Border Services Agency.

In most cases it wouldn't but if you move to Quebec you would need a Quebec selection certificate which you can apply for, it is not really more of a problem than actually being in Quebec when you apply but might delay your application a tiny bit. Make sure you notify immigration of your move so they know where to reach you.

quick question. I am applying for within-Canada common-law sponsorship. I had originally considered applying from outside, but then decided against it. My partner and I were just going through the piles and piles of forms and papers, and I came across form IMM 5540 (Sponsor Questionnaire). On the inland sponsorship checklist, it does not state this form as a requirement, but on the form itself, it says "this document must be completed and included with your application to sponsor if you are sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner". Do I need this form, or is it only a requirement for outside-of-Canada applications?

Also, if my application is processing, and I still hold a valid visitors visa, can I leave the country and re-enter, or will they make it hard for me?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You are supposed to complete the medical before you submit the application. If you wait until it's requested, this will delay the processing of your application. Your choice.
