Hey folks,

A quick question for you. Is there an "expiry date" on regular documents, ie the ones I need to get translated and notarized? I need to get my fiancee's birth certificate and divorce certificate translated before our wedding in February, and I figured we'd just get extra copies from the translator/notary. Would that be an issue? We might do that a bit in advance, so I just want to make sure I won't have to do it all over again before submitting to CIC.

No, those are historical documents and do not become stale. Police certificates and medical results age out because the information they represent becomes stale.

Thanks. I knew about the medicals and PCC, but wasn't sure if the other things had a shelf life. They do when you want to get married, no older than a month (for Iceland anyway).

Hello All,

For those of you who have already landed, you may be able to answer this for me. Does the Immigration Officer give you any type of Temporary Permanent Resident Card until the actual Permanent Card come in the mail? I ask because my Wife and I are planing to go to Brazil for the World Cup, July 2014, but if the processing of our visa goes according to schedule, we would land in Canada in late May or June 2014, which means that we would not have the Permanent Resident Card yet. Our trip would be for just 2 weeks.

Any thoughts?? Thanks.

But maybe there is a way. You should contact CIC regarding information on travel documentation. I guess they can provide a sort of an authorization to travel. Not sure how it works but I guess is worth to ask them and try.

If they are not visa-exempt, then the only way is to apply for a PRTD at the visa office where they are on vacation. The only other alternative is to cross the land border from the USA. If they are visa-exempt, it's not a problem as they can board a flight to Canada and use their CoPR at immigration to prove PR status.

Hello zardoz,
Thanks for your reply. I am aware of the PRTD but I wanted to avoid that if there was an easier way. Crossing by Land will not be an option for us. Unfortunately my wife is not Visa-exempt. If it comes down to it we will apply for the PRTD.
Thanks again

You contact CIC, not CBSA.

The COPR can only be used to land. It can't be used to re-enter Canada until a PR card is issued. If that was what you were suggesting.

You can use COPR to cross via land as long as it is a private vehicle.
