So, back to my original question.. How long have you been outside Canada? Do you meet the residency obligation requirements?
Doesn't look like it. Got his PR and has been in Bulgaria for the last 10 years. He may not even be a resident anymore.

How many days have you been in Canada in the last five years counting back from today? In other words, since 6th June 2008?

Hi computergeek: I understand if someone has Bankruptcy can't sponsor spouse in 7 years until it is clear. But what if someone has filed for 'consumer proposal', can he/she sponsor spouse of NOT. Please help me from your vast knowledge of immigration. Thanks in advance. By the way, I put this question as an independent post but nobody responded yet. So I thought I should ask you.
Hiya! I filed consumer proposal and it was fine :)

I think around 400 days.
Then yes, you have not met the residency obligation requirements of 730 days in the last five years. If you draw attention to yourself by trying to sponsor, you may be opening yourself to being reported.

OK but I have year and a half before the expiry of my PR card. I can collect this days. You tell me that I can't submit application for sponsor my common law partner, because I did not have enough days as a PR but I think that you are wrong, because I have friends, that apply imediatly when they became a PR and there is no problem for them.

For them it is a different rule because they have been PR for less than five years after landing. By all means, go ahead and apply. I'm just alerting you to a potential problem. Caveat Emptor.

Its different when you sponsor just after receiving your PR. You have been a PR for 12 years.

This is from the CIC website:

Keeping your permanent resident status

Your permanent resident status allows you to live in Canada, but there is also a time limit on how long you can live outside the country. To keep your status as a permanent resident, you must live in Canada for at least two years within a five-year period.

For further information on residency obligations, please see Appendix A of Applying for a Permanent Resident Card.

Losing your permanent resident status

There are several ways you could lose your permanent resident status:
•A permanent resident who does not meet their residency obligations could lose permanent resident status.
•If convicted of a serious crime, a permanent resident may be deported from Canada.

When you become a Canadian citizen, you are no longer a permanent resident.

I am not sure if the 750 day requirement is consecutive days or days in total or if the days can be spread out over the 5 year period.

Thanks for your alert.... we decided to resided in Canada and I want to make things with application faster, that's why I want to submit application immediately when I came to Canada. You undestand that si not so easy to live without your family especially without your 2 years old son. That's why i dont want to wait to collect this 750 days. Do you think that this will be a big problem for CIC???

Hi Leon,

I am in a bit of a situation.. My spousal application was started in April 2012. In the mean time, I was granted a TRV in March 2013 - which I used to travel to Canada to spend summer with my husband. I arrived about 2 weeks ago, and sent them an email about a change in address.

They responded by sending a remedical request and a PPR , with medical instructions for my home country for which phillipines RMO is responsible for. Do I have to go back to my home country and do remedical ther or can I just do it here in Toronto?

Problem is, I called 2 doctors and they both said they send results to Ottawa and would not send to Manila.

What do I do? I just got here.. And it was such an expensive journey here.. Has anybody changed countries after submission of application? Will Ottawa then send it to Manila?

A visitor visa implies that you are here for a visit. When do you go back to the Philippines?

That's not bankruptcy, that's credit counseling. So as I understand it, it would not be a bar to sponsorship.
