Like I said before, applying for proof of citizenship can take almost forever but if you do it with proof of travel, you can ask for it to be expedited and get it in a couple of months. Therefore, if you buy your tickets now, should be cheaper now anyway, you can have their citizenship cards very fast and no problems enroling them in school.

If you leave your PR application the way it is, you risk that they start digging into if your children actually should be on it. They may be asking for more info, asking for the children to be removed from your application etc. That could take some time and make your application process longer.

If they actually do not realize that the kids are already citizens and give them PR, your husband can apply for their citizenship later, either by heritage or apply for them as if they were immigrants. Children do not have to have lived in Canada for 3 years for an application to be made on their behalf if the parent applying is a citizen.
Thank you Leon. We have ourselves in a bit of a mess, but we agree with you that this really needs to be altered now rather than take the risk. The application won't get there for a few days so I'll contact cic informing them of the mistake and then do another form just for myself.
If we book flights as proof for the kids citizen apps, is it still ok for me to go too, even if i don't have my PR approval back, or will we risk splitting up the family?

As long as you don't need a visitor visa to visit Canada or have one already, then you are free to come and visit as your family makes the move. Just keep in mind that you are not officially moving at that time but you can stay up to 6 months and by that time you should have your PR. Even if not, you can apply to extend your visitor status to stay the last little bit. Once you get your PR visa in your passport, you can just drive to the US border and land there.

Hi Leon,

Just to give you an update on the PR application to sponsor my wife inland march 2011.

I have contacted my MP last week and immediately he contacted CIC. On Tuesday, I called CIC just to find out about the status of the application. To my surprise, I was told by the agent that our application has been updated with additional infromation sent about 3 months ago and on same day a VO at Vergreville is currently reviewing of our appication. This is a sign that our application is receiveing attention. A week after, I contacted my MP to find out about response from CIC and I was told that he did a followup CIC and he was told to call back in a week time then they will be able tell him the outcome of the application.

So how long will it take CIC to review an application? This is the secound week since the officer has been reviewing the file. Are they trying to delay because we contacted MP? This is my concern.

Supporing documents from me

Hi Leon,
Could you please tell me if my husband (sponsored person) needs any supporting documents (letter, bank statement, copy of lease agreement, etc) from me to submit with his TRV application? Or, just submit the TRV application with his personal letter and without any supporting documents from me.

He will apply for a TRV in Bangladesh and currently, I am (sponsor) in Canada. He wants to come to see me and stay here for a month and will be applying for a Multiple Entry Visa. My sponsorship application has been approved in Feb, 2012 and his Application for a Permanent Residence is currently at Singapore Visa Office (E-cas : Application received. Medical results have been received).

We know that he will probably be turned down but we want to give it a try as we haven't seen each other for a year now. Any otehr suggestions in this regard will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I am Sponsoring my Tunisian Husband, I applied Aug. 25th, 2011, Gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Sept. 30th, 2011. My sponsorship got approved and sent to Paris on Nov. 22, 2011, PR in progress Feb.14, 2012, request for 2nd medical and resubmission of police docs., marriage cert., and birth cert. Feb 27th, 2012, Mailed these Papers March 7th, 2012, My husband is so eager to meet our daughter (now 6 months old) , the kids, and myself, anyone have any idea on how much longer this should take? And for what reasons might they reject a spousal immigration to Canada. I am wondering from peoples experiences, is an interview before or after the medical ? I'm trying to figure out if my husbands interview has been waived or not. If you do the medical does that mean you have been accepted? How soon after the medical do they request his passport, my husband is going through the paris visa office. Thanks so much everyone

I have a question, hoping someone has some insight.

I received a request for more medical tests/reports from the London visa office, and I have 90 days from the date of the letter to comply with the request. However, it took them 20 days to mail it and it was mailed second class so here I am having lost 24 of those days.

I have 65 days left now, or a little over 9 weeks. One of the tests they are requesting has a timeframe (specifically by THEIR request) of 6-8 weeks so I am not confident about making their 90 day deadline.

My question is, what actually happens if one fails to meet the visa office's deadline for additional information?
If you realize already you can't make the deadline, contact them, explain the situation and request an extension. Provide any proof you have available that you are attempting to comply with the request, but cannot make the deadline given. (For example, make the appointment for the test being requested, and then show proof of having done so).

If a PR applicants accompanying dependant does not want to accompany before visa is issued what happens? Also if visa is issued and then find not want to accompany, then what?

I am sure they are not delaying because you talked to the MP, they probably started doing something because you talked to the MP but the officer may not only have your case on his or her desk, they may have a high workload so you have to take that into account and give them a little more time.

If you are in the proceedings of getting a divorce and your spouse refuses to take the medicals for example, you would have to notify the visa office that this is happening and ask if your spouse can be exclused from the application. If children are old enough to refuse the medical but still considered dependent because they are under 22, you would have to get a statement from the child to prove that the child is refusing medicals and it could be excluded from your application.

If somebody already had the medicals but then changes their mind and refuses to provide passport, you would have to ask the visa office if you can change their status to not accompanying. They could be sponsored later, dependent children however only as long as they are still considered dependent.

As for dependents who get the visa and decide that they do not want to use it, their PR visa will just expire and you will be able to sponsor them later if they change their mind, same thing with the dependent children though.

quick info, I am a US citizen that has been in Canada on a student visa, I got married to my wife(Ive been with her for two years, but have known her for four) on Feb 29th, we have to wait until the 1st or 2nd week of may (8-10 weeks after our ceremony) to get our marriage certificate. I am no longer taking any classes and my visa expires Aug 1st 2012 and I am thinking of getting a visitor visa since I am going back to Michigan and do not want to be in Canada Illegally. I have read about multiple entrance visa's but cant seem to find additional information, is a visitor visa the same thing? since I will be crossing the border at least 2-4 times a month for mostly weekend stays and sometimes weekly stays. I know it takes approx 2 months for my wife to get approved as a sponsor, and 4-6 months for my application to process. and just dont want to be apart that long let alone 6-8 months! Another option we've been talking about but cant really seem to find much info on and hoping someone here might be able to help with is, Is it easy and what is the process for her to get a temp work permit for the US? thinking if its gonna be hard for me to come and visit and I already know it takes longer than the sponsorship and PR processing for me to get a temp work permit, that it might be easier for her to work with me in the states while our paperwork is processed. and are we even able to do that while our Canadian Immigration paperwork is being processed?
I know its a lot but thanks again, this site has been so great!

1) As a US citizen you are visa-exempt, so you would not apply for a visitor's visa. You can apply to vary your status from student to visitor, and send proof that you are married and preparing for a PR application.

2) Check a US forum regarding work permits in the US, this is for persons who want to be in Canada.

3) As long as she is not planning to remain long-term in the US, if she is successful, yes she can still sponsor you while being in the US, as long as she is a Canadian citizen she can live anywhere and sponsor a spouse.

hi richa congratulations !!
it looks like your husband is very close to his PR but no one cant tell exactly how long it will take. it depends on his travel history and work history. in some cases background check can take more than a year but if your case is straight forward no travel history and no military job, you will receive your visa within one month.
if you dont mind please share your husband's travel history and other complications in your case if any..
best of luck to both of you :)

Heyy.. thanx
in my case there is not any complications but he traveled to london... my husband was on student visa over there.. for 1 year or so from 2009-10...and then he went back in the end of 2010. since then he is in India..

I hope they give visa soon.. its almost like a month and over.

thanks for the reply:) really appreciate it.
