Hello everyone! My fiancé is a Canadian citizen, we are planing to get married in december and then apply for sponsorship as soon as possible. We know the process could take 12 months.
According to the express entry calculator i have 469 point. The last week people with 430 and more got an invitation from the program and it seems to be faster than sponsorship (to some people only took 6 months to get their PR). It's a good idea to apply for both immigration programs at the same time? We just want to find a way to be together soon, we are tired of the distance :(

I don't know about the legality of applying for both at the same time, but have you got that kind of time and money to spend??

If your calculations are correct, 469 is pretty much a guaranteed AIUI.

However, I would go for Spousal Sponsorship and apply outland personally. If you get the forms and attachments right, it is guaranteed (i.e. no draw or quota). Also I think you are being pessimistic on processing timescales by using the 'official' ones. They are a basket average that include ALL spousal applications. For a better 'real world' turnaround, please refer to the spreadsheet link in my signature line. For visa exempt PA's (i.e. you = British), the average is more like 7.5 months.

Also, once you have 'sponsor approval' (say 2 months) you can at least enter Canada under 'dual intent' - see link below for reading on this. OK, you can't work until full approval but hey!

Dual intent is not something you apply for. It simply means that any person can enter Canada with both the intent to stay permanently and the intent to stay temporarily.

EE costs more money, as it requires education certification, language test, etc. The application itself would most likely be processed faster than a sponsorship app.

No - anyone can. But it is up to CBSA as to whether they allow a visitors visa and for how long. They will want to see proof of ties back to the country of origin (as explained in the linked article).

Your options here are between the possibility of getting express entry or the certainty of getting sponsored, I know which one I would take. There's a lot of paperwork on express entry when I looked into it and quickly realized it did not make sense being married to a canadian. Your only issue will be to send additional info since you're just married but otherwise, it should be very straightforward. There are several ways to mitigate the distance, you can come visit and then apply inland. Then you can be together and start working after 4 months using an OWP. Or you can apply outland - which is likely faster - and come visit for longer period of time but you can't work.

Is there anyone who has gone through the Express Entry program to become a PR instead of being sponsored by their Canadian spousal through the Family class sponsorship program?

Hey,
I am interested to know which path did you take? Express entry or spousal sponsorship?
Thanks!
