Just wanted to give an update on our situation for those stuck in a similar boat as us. When we got married, we requested that the English nikah nama be registered. The officiator (a total lalluu) thought we meant don't register the Urdu one and he decided to basically dispose off the Urdu forms we signed. Now CIC is asking for the Urdu nikah nama which we do not have.
After consulting many people, and getting weird ideas like send Urdu translation (
) or sign a new form in Urdu, all of which are bad suggestions, we decided to get in touch with our MP's rep. She is inquiring on our behalf from CIC on what we should do given that we don't have this document. I will update once I have more info on the matter but basically the following is my understanding:
CIC officers have a check list of the documents they should receive from an applicant. On it is the Urdu Nikah Nama. If you have it, send it, if you don't send an explanation letter that you are not in procession of this document but that the English one is a legally recognized copy etc. Do this upfront with your application. In case the Urdu NN is missing they will add your letter in your file to cover their asses basically. The request for the Urdu NN does not mean they are doubting the legitimacy of your marriage. Just another doc that they think they should have IF you have it. If you don't have it, send in an explanation letter either upfront, or voluntarily, or when they request it.
@posse hope this helps. All the best to everyone!
