Hi All - I would like to share status timelines for those who sponsored their spouses inland.
May 31 2016 - we got married
June 5 2016 - we mailed application for visitor extension of spouse and dependant. So they were under implied status
Jul 26 2016 - CIC received inland spousal sponsorship application. Included there was open uwork permit application.
Aug 11 2016 - CIC sent acknowledgement of receipt of said application
Aug 1 2016 - We filed on-line study permit for my spouse's dependant
Aug 30 2016 - Study permit was approved
Sep 16 2016 - We received in mail, visitor extension for both spouse amd dependant valid until March 2017
Nov 3 2016 - Open work permit approved. 3 months and 1 week to process since application was received on July 26. Work permit valid until January 2018

QUESTION: Given that visitor extension will expire on March 2017 but study permit will expire Sep 2017 and work permit will expire Jan 2018, do we still need to apply for visitor extension just to maintain legal status in Canada pending result of PR application?

Thank you

To answer your question: just request an extension on the OWP when you are close to the end of it -- say in October of 2017. Same idea for the dependant. Though I am wondering about the dependant's processing -- I thought this had to happen overseas. I will leave it up to someone who has done it, as I have not had experience with this.

QUESTION : When can we expect the AIP (Approval In Principle) for the PR application of my spouse? Or is it already approved in principle when she was given OWP?

No, they will issue an OWP simply with an application that is complete. They likely have not even started, or have only started in requesting Security and Criminality reports. We applied in March 2016, and I can speak from experience that, in our experience, an officer has yet to even look at or review the proofs we have submitted (at least up until October 21). So, it's not really possible to guess when AIP will happen. I can assure you that it should happen before December 2017 (all backlogged cases should be complete before then).

I completed my outland application and included my payment receipt last week. I booked a return flight for myself and one way tickets for my wife and kids who are citizens. I have now decided to change to inland application.

I now have 2 questions:

1. Will my payment still be valid in 2 months time when we get to canada and send through the inland application?
2. Can I change my flight to a one way ticket as well and show border security our inland application so that they will let me into the canada with a one way ticket?

1 - Yes. You van claim a payment anytime.
2 - The airline may or may not change it. You'll have trouble with the CBSA, you'll have to convince them you'll go home if your application is refused (so strong ties to your country of origin).

Also, inland PR has to be filed witb the applicant in Canada. You could show them the app, and the proof of payment, but you can't submit until after you're in Canada.

You will also need to withdraw your previous application. You can't have two in progress.

Hi Profiler - you mentioned you applied on March 2016, did you get PR approval already? We filed ours on July 2016 and we just awaiting final decision. Medical passed, no interview required, and they are just looking into criminal check.

I assume you applied under implied status? What did you put for document number and end date for status in canada? Since implied status means youre waiting for that info

Hi, I am in the same situation and will file my inland sponsorship next week. My question is the study permit application for my son, which form shall I use when I submit the application? IMM1294 or IMM5709? We are in Canada on visitor status. Thank you!
